Harmonic balancer troubles

I'm replacing the 2.8 liter V6 engine in my '85 camaro and I need to get the harmonic balancer onto the new engine. However, the harmonic balance is scraping against the timing gauge and Im wondering if I'm doing anything wrong?

You probably have a 6" timing tab and 7" damper, or 7" timing tab and 8" damper.
