Is a 396 BB swap possible? I need advice HELP ME

So i just recently got a 1986 Camaro Irocz and i had planned on just doing the bodywork and gettin it repainted, and then do the interior work myself, and waiting until everything else was completed until i dealt with doing an engine swap...well the car isnt running right and stalls as soon as i turn the key if i dont rev the heck out of it. I havent ran diagnostics on it yet, but i figured since im doing engine work anyways why not kill two birds with one stone and do the engine swap now and save the cosmetic work for later.
So my situation is i cant find a cheap 4th gen with a V8 in it, but i have found a 396 BB that came out of a old chevelle. He wants $1300 for it and it will take my hp rating from 190hp to over 300hp.
What i need to know is, is this a good swap idea?
How difficult will it be since its a big block?
What are the little things i'll have to do?

Plz reply with advise, and just assume that you are telling someone who has no knowledge of cars. I can give more info if u need it...
thnx and god bless

A 396 is no different than dropping any other short deck BBC engine into a third gen. Read the sticky at the top of the engine swap forum on installing a BBC into a third gen.

im doing a big block swap as well, just actually got a super t-10 4 speed for it. anywho, a big block will "drop in" per say. ull have to upgrade pretty much everything, like tranny, maybe some rear-end pieces or a swap, suspension etc. tell us more about what kinda package your putting together, and then we can go from there.

Ditto.... I just did a big block conversion on mine. The hardest part is clearing the hood and getting exhaust on it (i still haven't).
