700R4 with a 396?

Ive got a 1983 camaro berlinetta 5.0 305. I need to know if I can use my newly rebuilt 700R4 auto with a 396 BB or if I will have to use a bellhousing adapter. My email address is vtech9990@hotmail.com thanks!

Re: 700R4 with a 396?

I'd be more worried about the converter and flexplate going together, but it should be just fine.

Everything will be fine if the flexplate has the TH700R-4 converter bolt hole pattern. The bellhousings are identical between SBC's and BBC's. Even the distance from the bellhousing to the side engine mount bolts is the same.

That applies to everything being fine for bolting it up. If the rebuild was a stock rebuild, you might be pulling the transmission again soon after getting the beast running.

Got any details on the 396?

(Funny, the pop-up ad while I was typing this was advertising insurance for $396. . .)
