NEED Help with a 305, need to add more power!

Now Everyone has told me to go with a 350, but I like My engine and dont want anything to drastic. Ive been told I could get some decent results from my engine with a set of vortec heads, cam, pistons, new fuel system and exhaust. Does anyone have specs or any advice? I have about 1500 to drop on parts.

well if u dont want to 350 swap your car then could try bolt on's like long tubes, cat back, cold air intake, tune, gears, maybe a mild cam and roller rockers like 1.6 ratio

Vortec heads will need to be milled or you will lose power from LOW compression. If you wana go cheap keep your short block stock, use a set of trick flow heads (summit sells them) with 56cc or 58cc chambers, crane cams emissions legal cam for 305/350, performer intake, turbo city ported throttle body 160' thermostat with fan switch controller and hypertech chip for these, upgrade your ignition with a box, coil, plugs and wires, headers ypipe and single exhaust (single makes more power than that shitty 80's series). This is a subject ive read a lot on. I have a 91 305 tbi. Check out http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/modthel03.html they have a lot of good ideas. Also www.hawksthirdgenparts.com amazing deals.

I have a coil plugs wires k/n 14"x3" with xtreme top plate. I am however switching to a 350 truck crate motor. But I am waiting on heads til i get the 350. all other components will switch. PS change your cat sensors and get a y pipe from hawks for throttle response will improve a lot.

If your motor is in ok condition I would look into a good exhaust and a set of gears for the rear end.
