Re: 88 with 2.8 and puting in a 97 ls1

I believe you have an LT1, not an LS1 - the LS1's were in the 1998 and up cars - my 1997 Z28 has the LT1.

The tranny from the 2.8 litre car will not work - it is a V6 tranny will not bolt up to an 8 cylinder motor, and even with a new bellhousing to bolt it up, the 6 cylinder tranny wouldn't hold up to the LT1 power for long without breaking....

UNLESS, it truly is a V8 tranny that had the bellhousing swapped out to a V6 bellhousing in order to be able to install the 2.8 litre motor.

BUT - I highly doubt anyone would remove a V8 motor (what should have been stock on an IROC), and swapped in a V6 motor. More than likely, it was always a V6 car and someone swapped badges so it had IROC emblems on it. Check the VIN for the car, and decode it according to the chart at the home page of this site so that you can verify that it was a V6 car originally.

You could have a 97 ls1 but it would have to be out a vette. But like stated above if its a 97 Z if it's stock motor its a LT1.

Re: 88 with 2.8 and puting in a 97 ls1

i just got the car and motor yesterday and looked in it for the first time and yes yall were right first of all the car was a 95 or a 96 and second of all it was a lt1 in the camaro but the same questions apply and should i run my th-400 behind the motor or should i try to get a th-350 i plan on putting a bigger cam and a forged crank and diffrent push rods to match the cam i want a trans brake in the car also and im going to put twin turbos on it one day so witch transmission? and shouldnt the whole wiring harness and motor be a pretty easy install i mean the gauges in the car already dont work and the radio is all seperate ran wires to every speaker its not orriginal. i plan on putting the after market gauges in it should i?
