V6 to V8 swap Wiring Issues

hey, i am currently in the middle of a swap. The car im swapping into is a 1987 firebird that used to have a v6 fuel injected motor in it. I am trying to put a rebuilt 350 goodwrench motor (carbuerated) in it with a 700r4 tranny. Right now i hit a speed bump. i came to the wiring part of the project. I bought a parts 1986 camaro with a 305 h.o. in it. We took the wiring harness and computer out of that and had the intentions of putting it into the firebird but when we went to plug it in the plugs didnt match. so we consulted a wiring diagram but that didnt help because theyre completely different cars. so needless to say i need some advice on the situation. its a low budget project so i really dont want to buy a new harness. should i keep the old harness and computer? or how do i swap them...

thnx!

Re: Pontiac V8 Swaps

ok, first you'll need to sell that crate engine & upgrade to Poncho standards. next you'll compare the 86 & 87 diagrams, re-read the v6-> sticky, & then have your post moved & this one deleted.

oh, welcome to the site.

gurlmechanic12, welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

Obviously you posted in a thread where your topic didn't belong, so I've moved it to its own thread.

You can use the V6 harness if you like. Some wires will have to be lengthened, some will have different ends than you need, but it can be done. A carbureted Goodwrench engine won't need (nor can it use) the computer. You will have to come up with some means of locking of the torque converter clutch without the computer. But, the things you will need such as ignition power, alternator wiring, gauges, starter, etc., don't go through the computer.
