I am installing a 355 in my z28. I was wondering if anyone has any pointers about removing the computer system for the emissions. If you have any clues which wires can be takin out and just coiled up with the computer under the kick panel and disconnected.

I live in new jersey but the car is gonna be 25yrs old next year.It will be classic so im not worried about keeping the emissions because I wont have to get it inspected. Im just trying to find out I havent been under the car yet i dont know if I have an electric fuel pump and if the computer effects that.
I agree with the above posted for emmision's reasons.
BUT if you really want to remove it.
1 you cannot run the stock carb.
2 you will want to run a vacuum advance distributor because advance in the stock dist is controlled by the computer. Not required right away, but your fuel mileage will really suck from what I understand.
When I removed the comp from my 84, I just removed the kick panel from the pass side and pushed the wiring into the fender after disconnecting the connector from the computer and the connector to that goes over to the driver side of the dash. Then pulled the harness up from the engine compartment from the cavity between the air box and fender. You will also want to take the bulb out of the cluster for the check engine light because it will always be on.

If it's an LG4 you have a mech pump on the pass side of the engine. If you have a crossfire car it should have an electric pump in tank. I have no idea about the I4/V6 cars. If it's fuel injected, most likely has an in tank pump though.
I am quite competent on how to find information on this site.
My post was more to the effect of the fact that I was 99% sure I was correct, but I threw a "right" in there kind of as a just in case I was having a brain fart.
All the wiring from the passenger side of the car can be taken out if you not running anything computer controlled any more. All the wiring from the driver side firewall will have to be sorted through and can be disconnected at the firewall.

It was 7 years ago, but I don't recall having to touch any of the wiring that comes out on the driver side firewall on my 84. IIRC the wiring harness' are not interconnected like on the later 3rd gens.

There are a few sensors for carb, motor, and cruise and such on the driver side that can be taken out. I cant stand extra wires so everything was removed that wasnt needed on my car.
Yea the headlights, cruise control and sensors for the cluster are on that harness. I was just meaning that nothing on the driverside harness actually goes to the comp.
