Hey all. New to the board and have been dong alot of reading, lots of vary good info. I plan on starting this build now and hoping to have it done by spring. Heres how things sit and, how I hope they end. Just picked up a 89 RS with a 305/350 (cant be bothered to check) TBI, 700r trans 10 bolt. Its pretty much stock. The body is in good shape and it has some Torque thrusts on it i can sell for a few bucks. I paid $900 for it and had it driven up to where I live. Now the motor,Tranny,rear end and well everything but the body are rubbish for what I plan on. So far the motor plans are as follows Gen 1, 350 0010 block .030 over Scat 4340 54 lbs crank I have Manley forged I been rods but will more then likely upgrade to H beam scat rods. Pistons will be forged d-cup. Cam is still up in the air. I have a Philips 671 blower wich I will top off with a pair of demons or holleys, I have a bunch of pully combos, crank snout suport etc... As for heads I really don't need to worry about flow so a fresh set of 194's will work for now I will put screw in studs, guide plates and a vary strong set of springs and a set of comp cams mugnum roller rockers. The plan is to also go with a 6al, billit dis locked a about 24, msd coil. all the little bits will fall into place. I am thinking running 1-1 at 15 psi boost. No idea what the hp will be but it should be a good start. Trans is in the air??? I love 3 speed autos but I am leaning a little more to a powerglide with a moderate build for about 800 hp Trans brake is a must Converter I am thinkin around 3500 stall. I have to figuer out tranny crossmember wichever way I go I think? I have always gone with a 9" and that will not change. The plan is also to back half the car, a kit with the 4 link??. I have a set of Weld Pro Stars for it but not sure if the rears will work. Brakes can stay the way they are. There is alot more to it like cage figuering out wireing etc.. but it will get sorted. Anyone running a glide? and if there is a wiring guys on here a tip on the best harness would be nice, I was thinking Painless probally made something? The dash would be nice to keep. The car will be a daily driver and I plan on keeping it leagle LOOKING lol with wippers heat etc... but able to hold its own on at the track. Mid to high 10's????? I am new to therd gens but not new to Camaro I have had a few first gens a about 7 second gens befor they wer big dollar cars lol I will be posting from start to finish for a build log and hope to get lots of good info from the ones who no. Ok well I see from your Avi you may be a bit of a oldschool buff as well.
I have been toying with the idea of doing something ALOT differant with this car, I have built some old school rat rods and two Gassers and always loved a Gasser. I have been looking oline and have yet to come across a 3rd gen Gasser? Now I can see the problem some might have with taking a good handleing car and putting a "I" beam in it lol as well as the look of a Gasser being higher then even a stock 3rd gen by a good bit
but I think it would be a fun to give it a shot. Heres my ? has anyone done one or even seen it done? It would be nice to get a boo to save time on fabbing up the front. I no there will be some neg thoughts on this but I like to be differant lol any info would be helpful
If not I'll just build it like the rest and when i get bord of it I'll start my next project.

i think it would depend alot on your wheels if you did the gasser thing. as far as performance goes making it a gasser will kill the driveability it has in my opinion. ive never seen a 3rd gen gasser and dont know if i want to but if its done right maybe youll bring the gasser's back to life(not that they are really dead or anything)

yes a gasser is not for everybody. As for drivability The camaro is good but far from the top for that Time frame. At the track I think it could hold its own done right (my 54 Pontiac) sure did. I no it will hurt cornering performance but, again if I was looking for a handleing car it would not be Gasser or Camaro. I am hoping to get photoshop to get an idea on how it would look. And don't get me rong there are some beautiful rides on here and everyone does a good job at making them there own style This is just another style.
