Raised port bbc head ?

ok i have had the big block in the car for a while I wanted to go faster so I took the engine out got some new heads they have raised exhaust ports and also full light weight rotating assembaley and JE pistons. My question is I have the hooker super comp headers will they still fit or do they make a shorter motor mount what all needes to be done to make them fit. Thanks Eric

Re: Raised port bbc head ?

Shorter mounts are not available but something could be custom made. If you can't lower the engine to accommodate the raised exhaust ports, you'll have to notch the subframe a little more to get the headers to clear.

There are no off the shelf headers for just about any car with raised exhaust ports which is dumb considering just about all aftermarket heads now use raised exhaust ports.

Depending how much more power the new engine makes, you may want a new set of headers anyway. The hooker Supercomps are designed as a street header with small 1-7/8" primaries into 3" collectors.

My 540 race engine uses Ed Quay headers. The 2-1/4" primaries and 4" collectors are a very tight fit even with the engine dropped down. The header flange is cut and they use a slip on collector so installing the headers is a puzzle by putting one tube on a a time and knowing the order in which the tubes need to be installed. Some of the tubes are dented to clear suspension components and I can't remove the starter without dropping down some tubes because one tube runs directly under a starter bolt.

A set like that will probably be way more that you need but the set of Hookers you currently have are probably too small. The best set of headers to use will be a custom made set. They'll fit perfectly to your car and your car only.

Re: Raised port bbc head ?

Depends on the size of the engine, depends on the size of the exhaust ports. 2" or 2-1/8" with 3-1/2" collectors will be better than those restrictive Hookers. Large tube headers are always expensive. A good set of large tube headers should cost around $1000+
