With every build I've seen like that (421, 427, 434, etc) they almost always end up being worse off having built the small block - you'd be both money AND power ahead to build a 427 - or bigger - with a big block and put that in the car.
it would be with a dart block and all forged bottom end..
T & L Engine Development is going to do my old size eng now
and for like $1000 more i could go up in CID. there short blocks in that size run about $3400. nothing like more Cubes..
what is it you see thats wrong with the 420+ engs
Lingenfelter my old eng Guy. is passed and his shop is still going but i aways liked His input.. to what i wanted..
I've built quite a few 434s and 414s, and most of them with production blocks. The bang-for-the-buck is just not there. You can get 600 hp at 6500 rpm very easily, but it'll take a solid roller cam with over 250 duration at .050". Then after you spend about $2200 on heads, $600 on rods, $ 700+ on the crank, $600+ on pistons, and so on, you'll start wondering why you didn't just go LSx.
If you are going to build a 4 inch stroke anything. A tall deck is recommended. With that large stroke you are pulling the pistons way out of it's bore and you will have excessive piston wear. If you can afford the tall deck build a smaller cubic inch engine and use rpm to get you the power you want. Ask all those 434 engine builders that offer crate 434's about their reliabilty and wear on a higher hp 434 engine.
