V6 to V8 done! (kind of)

This last summer 3 friends and i (all of us just completed high school) i finally completed my v6 multi-port injection to a carbed 350 swap. The engine is a 350 bored .030, mild cam, ported heads, shaved block, flat top pistons, edelbrock single plane manifold, roller rockers, holley carb, electric fuel pump, electric fan, and headers. 350+ hp. The tranny is a 700r4 with shift kit and performance valve body with a 1500 stall converter (engine makes power right away and is a cruising car). 10" air cleaner in pic but now have 14". This weekend im getting Magnaflows stainless cat back kit installed and car just got painted. I also am getting BFGoodrich G-force 245/50/16's on iroc rims on all four corners soon. Also needs electrical work (notice all wires along firewall from V6 MPI). Pretty good for 4 kids i think! Will try to post pictures.

Congrats on a job well done!!! Just take your time and do your research and cleaning up the remaining wiring won't be a problem either!!! Sure is good to see some of you young guys jumping in to this Hot Rod stuff feet first!!!! Restores my faith in your generation, sure beats the heck out of most your age who can't seem to step away from the video games long enough to do anything on a car!!!! Again, Congrats on a job well done, and keep at it!!!! You're doing great!!!!!

I was just wondering if you had a/c on it before. It looks like you don't now, which is probably what I'll end up doing, but since I'm doing pretty much the same swap, was wondering. BTW, how long did it take exactly? gotta know how much time to take off work

Re: V6 to V8 done! (kind of)

There was a/c on my v6 but took off everything, it never worked and i think would have been a pain to try to find brackets that would have worked for it. Surprisingly i used my stock power steering pump and got a v8 brackets for it. That was probably one of the hardest things to do!
Well it took a lot of work, probably a solid 1-2 days to get tranny and v6 out of car. I thought changing motor mounts was a pain in the BUTT!!! That crossmember is a pretty tight fit. It took us probably 2-3 hours to change them. Then put in new tranny, and a tranny jack is awwwwsome for this, would recomend one! Then engine snugged in. So u no, i would put on one header before putting engine in. Just hooking everything up then. Like i said power steering pump is a pain. We put in prob 4-5 hours of wiring and still is a mess! IDK dude i would say a little over a week if your really dedicated, have all parts and know what your doing?!! But took us about all summer to finish. Started Mid June and finished Late August. But didn't work on it everyday, some times only on weekends and picked up parts here and there.

What kind of problems did mounting the power steering pump have? I did some research and was happy to find I could mount it on the 350 but what held you up on that? I really wouldn't be suprised if it took all summer, but my dad has done this mess before and maybe for once a Boone project won't overshoot its deadlines too far.

Re: V6 to V8 done! (kind of)

Just that i was rather cheap and used my v6 power steering pump. I had to cut some of the tubing attached to the pump and bend it out and the power-steering pullely it didn't completly line up with the crank pulley and had to do some adjustments to the bracket. Bent it a little! You can see in one photo that i had to make my own top bracket for the power steering also. IDK im sure there is an easier way to do it, but it worked for me. I also no that the power steering lines are different between the v6 and v8. I think the v6 line goes into a tee, so just be aware of thoes lines also....

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/lt...p-3rd-gen.html (How to prep a 3rd gen harness)

Read that for rewiring your carb. Being carb the relays will operate slightly different. Intank fuel pump (may not even have one) relay requires 12V IGN to engage. Fan relay(s) need the PCM side to be grounded to engage. Either install a manual toggle switch or aftermarket fan switch

Being an older car some vital wires may go through the C207. Check its pinout for your year and see if a few need to be ran through there

Did you yank the old fuel pump out of the gas tank?

no i didn't....i didn't use a mechanical fuel pump and wired my electric fuel pump in the gas tank to a switch. The fuel pump sends the gas thru a regulator that is running like 6-7 psi. It sends rest of fuel thru return line back to tank.
