help, 305 to 350 swap in progress

Hey everyone,

swapping a 305 from a 86 tpi to a new 350. I was told this was a tpi engine that was converted to carb and I seen pictures before I bought it. The mechanical fuel pump on the original 305 cant bolt over to the 350 block, there's no spot for it. I am thinking there is a electtric pump in the tank that must have been run to the carb direct. Can anyone tell if there is a pump in the gas tank?

Let me see if Im reading this right. You want to use the mech fuel pump that is now being used for the 305. for a new 350 without fuel pump mounting spot. But you cant, so you want to try and use elec pump in tank if there is one.Do you want to use tpi ? If so the pressure is different from carb.

Re: help, 305 to 350 swap in progress

You must have a carb in your car, and the new 350 was a TPI motor, so it doesn't have the spot for the mechanical fuel pump on the driver side block, right? But you are sticking with your carb, and just need to get gas to it since the mechanical fuel pump won't bolt on the new block, right?

If this is the case, then I would think that you could add any inline elctric fuel pump to your system, since you are carb originally you just have a carb pickup in your tank (I assume), and thus any electric pump making 5-7psi will work inline. As I understand it, you'll want to mount it as close to the gas tank as possible, as they can be noisy, and they perform better being closer to the tank (not having to pump from so far away). But get a second opinion on this.
