Not getting spark

I have a 1990 camaro and just swapped from a v6 3.1 to a 350, however the the 350 has a points system instead of the the electrical system. I already had it running but had an electrical problem with the ignition and i accidently hooked up the wrong wire to the coil and burnt out the points in my distributor. i bought a new coil, points, and condenser but im still not getting spark. Is it possible for the whole distributor to be burnt out? Or could it be something else?

Points only operate on 6 volts, not 12. You need to install a ballast resistor if you want to continue using that distributor. You should also hook up the coil to the "R" terminal of the starter solenoid (if your solenoid has that terminal) to give the system temporary 12 volts during starting.

Much easier to go get an all-in-one HEI distributor that only needs switched 12 volts to run.

Re: Not getting spark

But i already had it running with the set up i had. And only certain coils call for balast resistors, i thought. And also my solenoid doesnt have a R terminal. Is there anything else that would cause me to lose spark.
