350 Vortec Build

Hi!

I've got an 89 305 TBI Firebird, and just picked up a 350 Vortec out of a 97 truck to swap in.

I'd like to get 300 HP at the rear wheels, and need to know the least expensive, easiest way to do it, with this particular engine.

The stock engine made 255 HP, I know I need an intake (Edelbrock Perfomer was my choice), exhaust headers, and after that probably a good cam? Or is the stock cam okay for that? I think the cam is my biggest question right now.

Hoping to re-use the TBI off the 305 with new injectors and a bigger fuel pump for the mileage benefits and possible cost savings. Would a carb setup be easier in the long run? We live in 20 miles from town, so I'd like to get at least 20 miles per gallon, more is better.

It will be a daily driver type car, no racing, but would like to make it faster than the Saturn Ion I curently drive to work each day...

After literally months of digging though books and message boards, I was just hoping someone could say "Oh! Did the same thing last summer, here's what you need..."

Thanks!

I'd suggest going here http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tb...i-buildup.html (BUDGET TBI BUILDUP)

Basically what you're looking for.

Re: 350 Vortec Build

uh... yeah... that should pretty much cover it...

Don't I feel like a dork, thanks, no idea how I managed to miss that one, I really did look through the forums before I posted.

I'm going to see my optometrist now...
