Where to find a casting number?

Hey guys, I was wondering where on a block one should look to find a casting number? Once I get it, what do I do with it to verify it is the block it should be? Sorry for the newb questions, just trying to cover my bases on what I have before moving forward.

Re: Where to find a casting number?

Casting number will be driver side, rear of block. It's hard to see it if the motor is still in a car. Usually about 6-8 digits - ex. 3970010. Newer blocks had 5.0 or 5.7 stamped in them as well. Heads usually have stamping between 1 & 3 rockers, or 6 & 8 if looking at pass side.

Casting numbers can be checked at www.mortec.com
