Engine: LT1 Transmission: 700r4 | Swaping LT1 1993 I'm looking to get rid of the old bastard 305 in my 89 RS(stock), i want to replace it with a 93 LT1 with aluminium heads from a camaro z28(stock). I'll get wiring harness, ECM, all sensor including MAF, transmission(Automatic), everything. I want to know if the 93 Engine & Tranny will fit my thirdgen without ANY problem ??? If there's problem what do I need
thanks |

Car: 93 240SX Engine: SR20DET Transmission: 5 Spd Axle/Gears: 4.09 IRS | Hey Mat currently im doing the same swap into my 86 Z28, depends on if you want to keep the A/C when you swap for fitment if not you can get an a/c delete idler or i have heard of removing the back half of the compressor, without the compressor it bolts right in using the stock mounts, with it you have to mod the pass. side mount a little, i would also recommend that you get an aftermarket harness due to other things that you may delete when swapping, painless has one for the 92-93 LT1 its like $350 from jegs, you will need to fab fuel/a.c/power steering lines and radiator hoses. |

Engine: LT1 Transmission: 700r4 | ok for the lines and the compressor i'll do has you say.Do you think i'll need to use the fuel pump from the 93z28 ??? My TBI engine has a low pressure fuel pump and usualy LT1 runs on a high pressure fuel pump. right or not ??? Will I need to use the LT1 exaust manifold and Y-pipe or my one should be fine ???(I'm planning anyway on going with headers but for now just straigh manifols)
Keep on rolling...

| Matt,
1993 was the only year of the Speed Density for the 4th gens. 1994 and on were all MAF's. But it possibly could have been converted? I can help you identify the MAF if you think you have it, but I have no idea on what the Speed Density consists of. You could also Try www.camaroz28.com and post a topic about this in the LT1 section, should get all the answers you need there.

Car: A Camaro Engine: Weak Transmission: Weaker | The engine will fit in perfectly, unless it has air conditioning. If you do want air conditioning there are a couple of options.
1. Contact S&P or March and get a new serpentine pulley kit to mount the A/C up top
2. Section the motor mount as shown here www.hpsalvage.com/3rdgen.htm
You will need a different fuel pump (electric). SLP's headers have worked for many people on LT1's. The painless wiring harness is highly recommended for ease of installation, it's part # PRF-60501 in summit and is $350, it specifies a reprogrammed prom. Hope this helps. |

Car: 93 240SX Engine: SR20DET Transmission: 5 Spd Axle/Gears: 4.09 IRS | Yup 94 up maf 93 is sd, to delete the a/c go to your local chevy dealer they have an idler that will do it allowing you to use your stock mounts, stock manifolds from 3rd gen can be used just fine but i would recommend grinding them to match the LT1 gasket first since the port is slightly different, im also getting the painless harness that was mentioned to save trouble, yes you will need a new fuel pump, look in jegs or summit for a replacement for the TPI Z28 it will work perfectly if you want to see pics of my engine i just got it in the car go to www.Z28speed.com , hope it all helps, cya. |

| Mat I have seen a write up where someone used 4th gen manifolds and hacked together a y pipe i'd say using the stock 3rd gen ones would be better until you could get a set of SLP 1 3/4" headers. |

I will probably use the manifolds from the 305 and get headers later on this year.
Something else. How much HP would a 8 lbs supercharger give me ??? I can get one for about 750$ Canadian..

Car: '92 RS Engine: LT1/4 Transmission: T-56 Axle/Gears: 3.70BW | ok I did misunderstand you, I dont know about the new pump. my mistake. hey matt, glad to know I have some followers! j/k, total time was probably 6 weeks, working nights and weekends, so probably about 100, maybe 150 hours? I dont really know, never really thought about it. that is starting from taking the first bolt out of the hood to finalizing everything. like I said, that is a VERY rough estimate. the fuel pump was a definate b*tch. but hey, I can drop a tank in about 20 minutes or less now! no, the hardest part was just getting the gas out of the tank, once we figured out to drop the rearend completely to the ground and pull the exhaust, it was real straight forward. Like I said, the first time ( yeah, we had to drop it a couple of times)we tried, we didnt know to drop the rearend all the way, so we just jacked the rear of the car up, let the rearend hand, and started unbolting things. well, to our dismay, we had a half-full tank of gas that was stuck half way out of the car and we couldnt get to go anywhere, be it farther out or back to its original place. we finally pulled the exhaust over to the side and could drop it the rest of the way. the other two times we just dropped the rearend first, unbolted the exhaust at the cat, pulled the exhuast out the back, and unbolted the tank. it really isnt that hard. be sure to use a brass bar or hammer when you loosen the locking ring on the tank. I would hate to have anyone here blown up. like I said, it wasnt that hard, just take some time the first time you do it, and when you get frustrated (you probably will) just sit back and cuss at it for a coupla minutes and its all good! if you got any more questions just drop me a line and Ill see what I can do
oh yeah, my gears are the stock 3.08 and it will still run like a scalded dog. I plan to only go up to about a 3.23 or maybe a 3.42, havent really decide, I like haveing the top-end and pretty good accleration.

Car: '92 RS Engine: LT1/4 Transmission: T-56 Axle/Gears: 3.70BW | well to tell you the truth there really is no trick, just disconnect the sway bar, shocks, pan hard bar, and drop the rear end to the ground. then unbolt the exhuast at the cat and drag it out the back. then take off the heat shielding, disconnect the fuel lines, and you are ready to drop it. but get some help to do it, my dad and I dropped mine and he held the tank while I unbolted the straps. once the straps are out of the way, rotate the front of the tank down and the slide it as far to the pass. side as you can. you just have to work it some to get the filler neck free of the frame. installation is just the reverse. the wiring harness took us literally about 3 weeks to figure out, mainly because of the d*mn VATS, man that was a PITA. if we had of known about that one little detail before we began, we would have finished the wiring in about 4 days, but again, that was working only about 3 hours on weeknights and probably 6 each day on the weekend. it really helps having all of the GM wiring diagrams! Ill try to get you those. the whole thing wasnt that hard since the whole harness is mainly for the engine. the only parts of it that connect to the rest of the car are the power cables, and the wires for the dash gauges. everything else goes where it needs too already. got anymore questions just ask

| Hey TexasLT1 I am looking at doing an LT1 swap on my 87 L98 Iroc. What I was wanting to know is what parts will I need outside of All Sensors/Harness/Computer. I would also like to swap the 700r4 with a six speed. I would like to find a full list of parts, ( you know the misc. parts that you didn't know you would need when you started!)so I can make sure I get everything I need from the doner 4th gen car I get the LT1 from.
Thanks for the help!

Car: 1989 TTA #1240 Engine: 3.8 SFI turbo Transmission: 2004r Axle/Gears: 3.27 | hey i gotta a trick for you if you use a 94 corvette motor it will boltt up perfectly and the radiator hoses even match up without cutting them.about the air conditioning compressor with the vette system it's right next to the alternator on the driver's side of the car so all you wiill need to do is move the fuel lines to the other side of the car and get special hoses fabbed to run from the accumulator to the compressor and back to the condenser. |

Engine: LT1 Transmission: 700r4 | Hey Guys I'm thinking removing the LT1 now, I'm lost in the wiring harness and I don't have the money for ECM and painless wiring, I just received my pass-key module this morning and it got 16 pin connector, nothing on my harness has 16 pin, only 1 x 10 pin connector(white)and 1X10 pin conector(blue and the harness is complete...In canada the painless wiring harness cost around 500$US and ECM 250$US, I'll probably put back my 305 for a while and wait for everything because I'm FREAKING OUT! | Ask around on this board , I'm sure someone will program out the vats for cheap cheap on your 93 chip , then you wouldnt have to worry bout it . Unless you really want the vats to work . IMO , as the cars get older vats is nothing but a big problem .
Vats free for the last 2 years , no goin back |
