Pros and Cons : 327 heads on 350 over Vortec Heads on 350

Pros and Cons : 327 heads on 350 over Vortec Heads on 350

Recently, my friend approached me asking me why I bought Vortec heads over a set of 327 heads....I told him honestly I hadn't even heard of the 327 heads before, but that I thought they were outdated....

OBVIOUSLY I could be wrong ! I am new to this....so which of the combinations would be more powerful and in what spects would they benefit a 86 Camaro more ?

Stock vortec heads are better than stock 327 heads. They flow better, they have accessory bolt holes, and hardened valve seats.
But with the 327 heads you can re-use your stock intake, you have a very limited selection of intake manifolds with vortec heads.
327 heads are outdated compared to vortec heads, but lots of the older heads are still very good heads. (For example 462's, 461's, 291's, 040's...)

So, the Vortec heads are more power (more flow = less strain on engine = more power output) correct ? Doesn't the 327 heads raise your compression ?

Most of the 327 heads have 64 cc chambers, and that is also what vortec heads are supposed to be, but I have seen it mentioned here a couple times that the chambers in vortec heads are actually a couple cc smaller.
So, you should have the same CR with either set of heads, or possibly slightly higher with the vortec heads.

the only good thing about the old 327 heads is they are heavier allowing you to port them more. vortec heads work good out of the box but are limited to how much power you can make with them.

Well, in that case ,considering I am aiming for 400hp/GOD knows TQ , the Vortec sound like the better option.....are there aftermarket 327's ?
