Serpintene belt question

I have a 91 305TBI that im converting to carb, my question is....i'm not using the a/c compressor, or the air pump. How do i " make up" for those not being there with with s-belt? Is it possible?

Re: Serpintene belt question

or the air pump, rerout the belt (tech article here shows routing), for the AC you need an idler pulley, available from dorman and such (don't think the GM piece is available anymore)

Re: Serpintene belt question

Because some Vette owners are poor and can't afford the delete pulley ,
what we do is ditch everything ,
Install a std rotation SBC water pump and make a old style adjuster for the Alt

If you look at the F-Body belt diagram, the PS pump runs same rotation as crank
so in new setup belt runs Crank-PS -Alt -WP
Plus you get to remove any brackets and the idler on pass side to clean up engine bay

Might work for F-Bodies
( Appears Vette PS pump has opposite rotation so belt in F-Body would be under ; not over PS pulley)

Re: Serpintene belt question

When the water pump needs to be changed from reverse rotation (ccw) to normal rotation (cw), how can one tell by looking at the pumps what rotation they are? This is if one did not know the year or application and no pulleys attached.

As I noted in a similar thread; some of the Vette guys have run the rev rotation pump the opposite way with no bad effects.
The vanes on the impeller are apparently straight so they move coolant which ever way pump is turning.
Worth a try 1st to save some $$$

Get a piece of string , run it around the pulleys , get someone to move the idler in as far as it goes and measure length.

6 rib serp belts are generally listed by their length in mm
ie
6PK1550 where 1550 is the belt length
