Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
Absolutly hitting up the tracks and ill be no more front heavy that a bbc I already have lost alot of front weight and will trim more
Good news I got a local diesel shop on board we will be trading services I will powdercoat for them and I get cheaper parts and custom tuning. Right now the goal for this spring is even more important because I am going to try and enter the NHRDA circuit and as long as I dont touch the firewall and use production bolt on parts Ill be running against the trucks
I just finished one LS swap and the others are waiting on parts so in the next weeks there should be some more progress goal is to get the engine mounted in and start exhaust intake fab

Diesel 3rd-Gen Vs. Diesel truck? Hmmm...I wonder who has the advantage there?

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
Late to subscribe, but looking forward to watching your build.
There was a fellow on this site a few years back who swapped a BT4 Cummins into a thirdgen. That build was interesting to follow, however he did not go as indepth as you are. Your Duramax build should be awesome! Many years ago I swapped a BT6 Cummins into an 88 Chevy CC Dually 4x4. I used a SM465 4 speed, and a US Gear 2 speed spliter, 208 transfer case, and the truck already had 4:10 gears. It turned out great. My swap was not nearly as complicated as your swap.

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
I wish I could give an update but unfortunately I have been so busy lately I havent even gotten to touch my car let alone even think about it Ill be wraping up one job in the next month and hopefully finishing another at the same time then I am not taking any more side work other than powdercoating
I put the motor in and started making the motor mounts and thats about it I apologize for everyone that is subscribed waiting for progress but the good news is as soon as im finished with my other side jobs its all steam ahead to getting this old girl running

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
well not to be the the bearer of bad news but ive got a good offer on the dmax the guy is coming by tomorrow if he buys it then ive got a 6.0 sitting around and ill throw some LSA heads and a turbo kit on it and it will be in the car very quickly Ill let you all know tomorrow its down to time basically I dont have the time to do all the fab work to make it work and I would have to go to a 4 inch cowl to clear the motor which I wasnt to fond of

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
I wouldn't call it a failure. To my knowledge, no one had ever tried it before. Now we know that it might work but it requires a ton of extra work that may not be worth it.
If someone else wants to try it, they will see this thread and have a better idea of what the potential issues are. For that reason, this thread is a win, IMO.

Re: Duramax Thirdgen Swap
its very possible the most major issue is the height and the exhaust being right where the steering is
I was doing it to do it but really didnt want to do it I think its an awsome idea but I wanted to build a high hp 6.0
the duramax left today and I already have a complete turbo kit a 6.0 and i ordered some L92 heads with the holley high ram intake
Ill start another build thread once i start into it next month ill still have a 600 hp motor one way or another
