my 92 camaro needs help

Hi guys, I'm kevin. I just got a 92 conv. Rs camaro about 5 months ago, only been driving itfor about 3 months. About 3 weeks ago I had coolant mixing with oil, so I took apart the 3.1 in it and replaced everything from the head gaskets and up. When I was inside the engine it had about 1/2 of oil sludge (very bad in there), the heads where fine(didnt over heat it), took a leveler to the heads to make sure theywhere still smooth.
Cleaned it up the best I could. Once it was all done the coolant still goes right into the oil pan has fast has I can put it in. Think the block is cracked and the sludge covered it up. Here is what I would like to do, if im going to fix it I want something better then a v6. I can get a 5.3 really cheap (out of a 2004 chevy truck) or I have a buddy with a 350 that he will just give me( carb). I do want to stay fuel inj. I have a 4l60e trans in it, which ppl are telling me that it will mount to both. Which one would be the choice for my car? Would any one of you guys have just list on the parts the needs to be replaced to make my car a v8. I did read the post on this engine swap just need a list of the parts and to know what parts I can get from a junk yard to the parts that should be new. Sorry for all the Q's, this is my first time doing a swap to a bigger engine. Thank you for reading.

Re: my 92 camaro needs help

the auto trans that's in your car has a bellhousing designed to bolt to a 60 degree motor (like the 3.1). It won't bolt to a 90 degree motor (SBC, LS, etc). Plus, it's internals are nowhere near strong enough to survive. If you do a 350 or LS swap, you'll need a new transmission.

Re: my 92 camaro needs help

How did you get a 4L60E in it? Because they weren't built that way. All '92 automatics, whether V6 or V8, were still 700R-4. This can be called a 4L60 ( NON-e ), but that's NOT the same. If it is a 60e, it'll have about a dozen wires going in on the passenger side. And no governor. And no TV cable. And no lockup wiring on the driver's side.

Re: my 92 camaro needs help

Thank you for the info. I found a crack in my timing cover, so I going to replace that so I can drive again. I still want to put a bigger engine in it. Now I'm trying to look into the 4.3.
