Best cam for '71 350...

Hey guys, I'm planning on putting the 350 from my father's old blazer into my 84 Trans Am. The motor runs 9.5:1-10.5:1 compression (last time it was apart we swore it had flat top pistons, not dished, which would give it 10.5:1 according to my father) and already has a mild cam. It has an edelbrock that has 278/288 duration, 204/214 @.050, and lift of .420/.442, and lobe seperation of 112. This in my opinion won't give me my desired 300 horsepower. I plan on running stock converter with a 700R4 and a shift kit. I also want to do 3.73's in the future. What cam do you guys think would give me maximum power? After reading the post on 400 horse SBC for cheap, I am seriously looking at the Comp Cam Xtreme Energy Cam. This one is 268/280 advertised, 224/230 at .050, and lift of .477/.480 and lobe of 110. Is this a good choice. I will also have the stock ECM. Anyone else have a good recommendation for a cam? I want choppy idle and maximum power.

That Comp XE268 is a good choice, if the heads are any good.

What heads are on it? What has been done to them?

heads...

The heads are the stock, but my father said something like that they were just below the Z28 heads for that year. They are pre smog, so they haven't been screwed up. We think it is the 350/300 gross motor for that year, and we're pretty sure. The motor is in the truck now, and it works great. He gets the 305 but is putting in the edelbrock cam he has for the 350 now.
