redrott, I'm glad to see that someone understands the concept of building a street/strip car. Like you said, and every other pro engine builder (David Vizard, Johm Lingenfelter) says [b]"BE MODEST ON THE CAM YOU USE!!!"
A car that's a daily driver will most benefit from a torque motor, opposed to a HP motor. Especially if it a stick, because you HAVE to downshift to get any speed if you wanna pass someone, make a yellow light, etc. And even in a auto., the tranny will only kick down if you gun it, and then it's gas guzzlin' time.
I'm not saying that higher RPM engines don't have their place. Hell, I was 16 once. I never gave a crap about MPG, or idle quality. And I was happy as hell to floor it o have to downshift to pass someone. It was fun. But then I bought a '74 Camaro with a 406 (400 .030" over), TH400, and a 3.90 rear end. I didn't scare the daylights outta everyone within' a mile radius if I wanted to pass someone. I just left a few patches of rubber and clouds of smoke 4 the guy behind me
