Steel Braided Brake Hose

I'm looking at replacing all the tired rubber hoses with the steel kit from Earls. Gordon, I know you have done this recently. Just want to know a few things.

1) Is it an easy install?- just really the bleeding part that worries me.

2) Where is the best place to buy from? Summit aren't showing stock, maybe you could recommend a UK supplier?

3) If my car was originally drum, presumably I will need the drum kit? Even if I now run the alloy calipers and disks?

Thanks guys,
Felix

Hello Felix!

It's a great mod to do and very worthwhile. You'll notice an obvious improvement in pedal feel.

The bleeding part is fine as long as you have a friend to pump the pedal when you tell him, or you could purchase one of those speed bleeders or similar from any automotive store like Halfords.

Summit will have have them, or will be able to get them in a matter of a few days. Did you speak to them by phone, or was it a web based - this item will ship on X date thing?

I could try and get you the parts number later on. You are now running a 9-bolt disc rear yeah?

Best of luck,

Gordon

Three threads for you to look at:-

Bad Brake Hose?
http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...ighlight=earls (Bad Brake Hose?)

Earl's Hyperfirm brake line kit
http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...ight=hyperfirm (Earl's Hyperfirm brake line kit)

"EARL'S" stainless steel brake line questions!!!
http://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/show...s+part+numbers ("EARL'S" stainless steel brake line questions!!!)

Earl's offers 4 kits for our cars. You need to buy the right one. There are THREE different kits for 4 wheel disc applications.

PN28A300 is for 4-wheel discs where you have Iron front calipers and aluminum PBR rear calipers. This is most often for cars 1989 and after.

PN28A520 is for 4-wheel discs where you have Iron front calipers and iron rear calipers. This is most often for cars pre-1989.

PN28A190 is for 4-wheel discs where you have aluminum PBR front calipers and aluminum PBR rear calipers. This is for 1LEs.

PN28A180 is for front Iron calipers and rear drums.

The 28A190 kit can work on the Iron front calipers also if you follow the modification that Traxion did here:-

Earl's 28A190 4-wheel disc brake lines don't fit?!

Earls are actualy located at Silverstone, so they aren't that far from you Felix, perhaps it may be worthwhile to simply go there, and ask for a quote?

That's great, thanks guys. Great to hear it improved stopping distances. Easy one to get past the wife when you mention safety

I can't believe they're in Silverstone? Aren't they a sub of Holley? I'll check it out. Like the pic of you car in your signature Phil, looks great!

Hi Gordon,

I'd done countless searches on this and I guess Summit is the one to use. It annoys me that they charge $23.95 or whatever it is just becuase we're overseas though..

Anyway thanks for taking the time out to help. Much appreciated and will let you know how I get on!

Felix

Felix:-

Summit are one of the most reliable out there though, and the extra reassurance is worth it when you are on the other side of the world from these guys. The international order supplement charge is a real pain though.

Is that all you are planning to get from Summit? If so then shoot me a PM or an email, and I may be able to hook you up with them in with my order. Then get them to you at a show, or post them down. As long as you send me the money!! LOL.

BTW Phil, I agree on the new sig pic - looks great!

Thanks mate, i was quite pleased with that one myself!

The place they have in silverstone is huge, it also incorprates Alan Docking Engineering, both the radiator / intercooler place, and the F3 race team.

I got Earls and they are great on my 1989 Turbo Trans Am (you can feel the difference after you installed them), easy to install. Got them from Summit while in the US years ago. Cost back then around $90 for all 5 pieces (front, rear, and the one to the rear axel). Stay away from other brands as I heard bad things about them.
