4,000 is the hightest you are going to want to go unless you find a (88) (89) that has less then or neer 40,000 miles then you are looking at fig around 5 to 8 grand i still think this is to much but that is what they go for that is if it is not all hacked up good paint, inter, body parts. But on avg they go for 2,500 to 3,500 with miles around120k to 140k miles
pretty much as above, Autopontiac have a mint 89 Formula 350, its up near 6000 i believe, and it only has 19 000 miles..
there is very little to look for you wouldn't check on any other caro f this type, they aren't stupidly complicated, and as long as you are carefull checking for signs of abuse / accident damage, you'll be fine.
a couple of things to note - the starter motor is not the best in the world, if its not got a recipt for one in the last 5 years, i'd keep £125 asside in case it needs one, ditto alternator.
the guages are pathalogical liars, and pannel fit is rubbish from the factory, so its not nesicarily a sign of an accident.
these are great cars, and a lot of fun, buy carefully, and you will love every second of ownership!
Cheers for your help, i am going to get a drive in one first, then if i like i will sell my current car and should hope to see some of you next year with my new GTA!!
From my experiences I found that I would travel to look at a “beautiful condition” car only to find that it had been ragged all over the place, e.g. shot wheels poorly repaired damage and half-eaten seats.
The worst thing I found was that the vast majority of cars had lots of parts missing from the emission control devices that were fitted originally to the cars at the factory. Now call me a perfectionist but I like everything to be where it should be and the pure frustration was great.
I’ve been like most a Nightrider fan since the age of (Ahem) 12 and the first time I clapped eyes on that beautiful Trans-Am. So after at least five years trolling round looking for a decent Firebird I resigned myself to the fact that I wasn’t going to get one.
But fait has a strange way of working and to cut a long story short a female driver came to my rescue in finding a perfect bird by writing my van off for me! I always look through the Auto Trader’s American car section just out of interest and what should I find? Yep you got it, a beautiful black 91 T-top Firebird.
It needed some work (and still does) doing to it of which most is done. But it was a nice clean honest car and didn’t cost the four, five, and six grand some dealers are asking!
The moral of my story is, take your time looking for a good car don’t get mesmerized into thinking it’s a great car when you know it really isn’t. Don’t let people fool you that the car will run better without all the emissions equipment on the car because if it hasn’t been removed by someone who knows what their doing it won’t! And lastly, don’t let anyone try talk you out of buying a bird because when your finally on the road you’ll turn more heads than Mr. Porsche and all the other Euroboxes out there!
Good advice there guys. Speedbird is right don't let your heart rule your head! There are 95% dogs out there, I know that I was lucky when I found mine.
