Hi all

My 'bird came with no radio fitted. I have a spare Goodmans CD player which "fits in the hole" but it is too long and pokes out from the dash about 2". Is this a standard thing with radios for European cars not fitting Yanks? If it is, is there anything I can buy to make it fit? I assume there are not many cars out there with the original radios in so others must have come across this.

The stock GM radios are shorter and have a support in the back. If you look into your radio pod / console you will see a plastic thing sticking down in the back with a hole in it this is where the stock radio is supported in the back.

You have two options, either you use a dremel and cut the support off or you leave it sticking out :-)

The DIN size radio adapter for GM cars actually have the DIN radios sticking out about 1/2 inch or so .....

Make sure you get a wire harness adapter as well and not cut the factory harness ....

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but the DIN is what? The previous owner changed the wiring to a standard plug in for most UK radios. He didn't leave the radio in though

DIN is the standard size of the actual opening where you would mount / insert the complete radio in the dash. The original is about 1 1/2 DIN size (so same width but 1 1/2 the height), it also refers to the standard electrical plug in the back I think ...

So basicly it's the outside dimensions of the complete unit

hmmm interesting..

my rear radio support was metal - i just simply bent it down and the stereo slotted right in..

perhaps it varies from camaro to bird?

My radio support is plastic & got the chop with a junior hacksaw. Crude but effective in getting my stereo to fit. I still have my original GM cassette radio deck but no way am I going for the retro look.
