Roys roc 87 tpi bad starting

Hi there
I have a1987 5.7 tpi iroc and it turnes over a lot when i start it from warm its great cold or very hot starts right away but warm will turn over six to ten times when it does fire up it smokes and a bad smell
of gas.I have changed the temp sensor and cold start injector time switch no change it seems the cold start injector is dumping loads of fuel in on each start instead of switching of when it should..Am i on the right track or going down the wrong road here i thought of deleting the cold start injector with a blank of kit do I need an 88 or89 chip to prime the eight injectors as they say or can i get away with out one as i only use the car in summer when its warmer i look foreward to some ones help on this

I would try pulling the connector for the cold start injector out and see if that makes a difference.
