I was wondering how I was going to get around the trans x member, now I know. did you have to do any cutting or anything to the S pipes so the rest of the exhaust system would fit right? thanks

my suggestion for the cats is to put them right in front of the mufflers where the strait pipes are. That makes sense to me. I don't see why that wouldn't work.

Just and idea

I don't know if it's just me, or only a mustang thing, but I think I'd like to dump it out the sides, and if possible mold it into the ground effects. I know that it would take longer and probably would end up being a hack job at first, but I'd like to see it done. maybe even use the Rousch tips off of the 2002 Rousch Stangs and side pipe GT's.

If it identifies too much with Mustangs, than I'd rather not do it.

Just throwin out some ideas.

Oh yeah, there was a 91 GTA in Roswell, NM when I was there that had regular 3" pipes that came out the sides, I didn't like it too much. It looked cheap and red-neckish. That's why I'd like to play with the groud effects, or at least have a rectangle tip.

go here to see some pics of my system. pic 0011 shows the lowest point. thats a drop light under the lowest point while the car is sitting on the ground. thats about 5" I think. I now have bullet mufflers instead of the cheapy turbo mufflers. yes, they are ALOT louder. I didnt use spipes, I took the reducers that came w/my hedman headers, only used the flange portion. then I had some 2.5k" pipes expanded to fit the inside of the flanges and then bolted the flanges to the headers loosely. slipped the expanded ends of the pipe into the flange/collectors and pointed the pipe under the tranny crossmember. so instead of it being bent, it is welded in at an angle. then, I cut it off under the crossmember at a right angle to the ground (pretty much same angle as collectors). then the exh. shop bent the pipes a little to
match from the mufflers to there. I also dented the pipe alittle directly under the crossmember so I could tuck the pipes as close to the floors as possible. for the hangers I drilled a hole on ea. side behind/under the rear seat and installed a bolt about 1.5" long and a nut on the outside of the floorpan. this is the stud I use to bolt the straps/hangers to. it makes it real easy to removbe the exh. for what ever reason. just unbolt the collectors and sit the collectors on the ground. then move to the back and undo the nut from ea. side of the hanger.
as for the susp. on my car, its the stock Iroc springs allaround and I have removed alot of weight from the car. removed the A/C, power steering, front swaybar, and ofcourse all the emisions crap. I have alum. heads and waterpump w/an LT1 starter(note: I used a small diam. flexplate from summit and it bolted right up)

Well, for one thing, that car has NO ground clearance whatsoever. Maybe oval tubing would have helped him, but not by much. It probably sounds great, but man, with that little ground clearance, it just doesnt seem worth it.

hey how hard do you think it would be to take off the turndowns and run the pipes to the bumper so i could have tailpipes? also, would it work if i put my cats where your mufflers are and put my flows under the bumper?

hey fast3rdgen, did you run into any problems with installing the headers? did you have to lift the engine off the mounts any? any problem w/ the headers clearing any of the front end chassis? some dude on another post was talkin about how he had to cut some ears off his tranny and cut the a arm, i would imagine that if a set of headers was made for the car there wouldnt be such problems. im glad you posted youre setup because that is the exact thing im planning to do to mine when i go home for x-mas. thanks man

Would there be any disadvantage for leaving off the tips on the muffler and just have the muffler be the last part with no tips? Is the exhaust going to burn anything if turn downs are not used?

Thanks,
Jesse

I currently have no turn downs on my bullets. just too lazy so far to put them on. I bought some, but got the wrong ones. see, the bullets are made to slip over 2.5 " tubing and I didnt think about that when I bought my turndowns and got some that would also slip over 2.5" tubing. so they are the same diameter. I'll prolly just weld them on cause it would be easier then going back to the store and returning them then trying to find some 2.5"O.D. turndowns. been that way for about 1K mi.s and no burning anything. but my rearrend is a little sooty from the exh. going right at it.

and to the fella asking about pipes going the rest of the way back:

I have seen this done but the pipe has to go right between the panhard bar and the brace that is above it. so when the car is on the ground, it touches the brace and if you go over a dip or something while driving, the rear end of the car will go down and contact the pipe. you'd need a really stiff rearend spring/shock package to avoid that.

also, FYI, w/my bullets Ive been doin alot of driving lately and have come to the conclusion that they are LOUD. its fine when your by your self, but if you cruise w/people in your car alot, then it makes it hard to talk and its alot more obvious how loud it is. its mostly only bad when driving slow. once your at cruising speed then it mellows out quite abit. Im hopeig that my turndowns will help this a little and Im going to insulate the car under the carpet this winter with "dynamat". I know that will help alot.

Im doing that same exhaust but im gonna use hedman headers because im a poor *** right now. Just did a motor swap and everything. gonna run a flowmaster h pipe to....even with the headers and flows the whole setup is gonna be less than 300$ to be put on the car.

yes the exhaust will end before the rear wheels. Im gonna run turndowns also. With the 2 chamber flowmasters it should be pretty damn loud. And to think I almost spend 600$ for a hooker shorties and hooker catback

California emissions laws suck. I am not allowed to have dual exhaust even if i run 2 cats and mufflers.... I could do that but i wouldnt pass smog then i would be more than screwed. So my single pipe 3" cateback with a dual outlet flowmaster is just going to have to be good enough.

even if they could, every cop in Cali would bust his balls for that setup

NOT a good idea for a street car

i love the side exhaust and really want to do it on my car, but with the clearance i have now (stock exhaust) i get horrible clearance. i scrape my cat everytime u pull into my driveway. i think when i do my exhaust i have no choice but to just put a 3" going back.

Fast3rdgen,

how long are your pipes from the s-bends to the flowmasters?

I'm running hedman lt's, into s-bends right into thrush glasspacks.

the glasspacks are at the lowest spot and rub on decent sized bumps and/or crappy roads. plus they look bad hanging so low.
