Will I Pass Smog With High-Flow Cat.?

Today an exhaust shop guy told me that I would not pass smog if he were to install a new, high-flow cat. like a Magnaflow or Catco. (By the way, I live in California.) I then called some other exhaust shops and they all said that I would have no problem passing smog with any cat. as long as it is specifically for your vehicle. Does the guy who said I wouldn't pass just not know what he's talking about? Help! Thanks. -89IRO

Well, I don't see how you wouldn't all thing being equal, say you could pass before the hi flo one. Now adding a hi flo one shouldn't cause you to fail, or they wouldn't sell them, or at least put not 50 state legal. You should be fine.

Most likely, the guy at the 1st shop doesn't carry those brands, so he wants to sell you one of his $300 "high-backpressure/high-torque" converters...

Yeah, that or, he knows they aren't illegal so he thought he would try and scare me so I would come running to him. Will a new, high-flow cat make my exhaust louder than say the 13 yr. old origional one? -89IRO

thats what high flow cats are good for they outflow the old factory ones and keep emissions about the same...
the more flow i guess the more sound, but definitely a tad more power...
