In a recent issue of Car Craft, they tested different heads on a 383 on a dyno. I believe the Vortec heads outperformed the L98 heads by around 40hp, not sure about torque. This was on a carburated engine with a manifold designed to work with the Vortecs. Will Vortec heads bolt right up to a TPI intake base? Does anyone have any information theyd like to share on the Vortecs?

Neither the Vortec heads nor the L98 heads will "bolt right up" to an f-body intake manifold. They have a different intake bolt pattern. The Vortec heads also have a different intake port shape that doesnt line up. 85-86 TPI F-body intakes and 85-91 Corvette intakes will work with the L98 aluminum heads, they have the same bolt pattern. But you're better off getting an aftermarket TPI intake manifold like from Accel, TPIS or Edelbrock. Scoggin Dickey is making a TPI intake for Vortec heads, but it wont be available until later this year. Also, neither heads have EGR passages, so if you have emissions testing in your area that will be a problem.
