Spintech 3444XL VS Flowmaster "Top Ten Shootout" 3" muffler
I am looking to swap to the Spintech 3444XL in place of the Flowmaster Force II muffler #53033 single 3" in/out on my Z.Question is..is the Spintech quieter at cruise and idle?I am looking to quiet my Z down when cruising and at idle..actually would like to quiet it down inside the car more than anything.WOT I like it loud as hell..just not at cruise or idle..this Flowmaster is obnoxious.Interior noise is terrible with the Force II system..and decelleration is nothing but snap crackle pop...I would love to rid my car of that Flowmaster noise when letting off after a WOT run.Anyone done this swap or something similar on their ride??I need opinions on a new muffler to quiet it down at idle/cruise..less interior resonance..and WOT scream.Deeper would be a bonus if possible.TIA
Hehe, I know what you mean. I have the Flowmaster 80 and its loud as hell. I can only imagine what it'll sound like with headers.
I really like the sound outside the car, and between 3,000rpm and WOT. But when I'm coming home from work after a long day I would like something a little quieter. I can get obnoxious. I've had people on my block complain that I was, "racing down the street." In actuallity I was just rolling down the street at 25mph in 3rd gear.

That's why I went with Magnaflow. Much quieter than a Flow 80, and no obnoxious interior drone when crusing down the highway. Still, at WOT, it's pretty loud.
When a friend of mine swapped out his flowmasters for spintechs, the inside noise was reduced. When you get on it, it's louder than the flowmasters not to mention more power

WHY NOT HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. GET A QUITE MUFFLER & INSTALL AN ELECTRIC CUTOUT. WHEN YOU WANNA BE LOUD, AND I MEAN REALLY LOUD, SIMPLY OPEN THE CUTOUT. WANT TO BE QUITE, LEAVE IT CLOSED. YOU SEE, BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!
I also have the Flowmaster Force II. I purchased a Dynomax UltraFlo Welded muffler to replace it. I don't have it installed yet but it should be similar to the Magnaflow. Pictures of the UNinstalled muffler are here ...
Yes, to answer your question, you will be very happy with the spintech(s). Smooth, clean, crisp idle, but noticable....no interior BS.....and yes, when you get on it, you better be careful! Hey, that's only my street muffler I'm talking about (comparble to 80 series/stock...crossflow design), now if you got a spintech race muffler, then that would be even better.

You might have another thought coming. I have a Dynomax Ultra-Flo on my 91', It's really loud. MUCH louder than my 84' which has a Flowmaster 80.
I don't know how loud your car is, but my 91' sounds like alot more than 330hp, more like over 400.
It could be because of the Y pipe i made myself....2 1/2 each side into a Flowmaster Y collector 3 inch outlet. I put the outlet really far back too...well, a few inches past the stock location of the cat.
I have the Stainless version also...I heard that the welded ones are even louder. Not to mention mine isn't even burnt in yet!!!
Just put a pro street 2 incher on my dad's 4 banger tacoma today...it's a stick. Nothing "popping" like that. It sounds pretty damn good for being a 4 banger....not a "r!cy" sound at all like those straight-through fart cannons.

I like them alots... it actualy sound like Open hedders but with a volume control.
That snap cracle pop has nothing to do with the muffler design - you have an exhaust leak.
In reply to the original poster, I have had both Flowmaster and Spintech mufflers on my car and I prefer the sound of the Spintech.
Thanks for all the replies so far guys!Pretty much set on getting the Spintech 3444XL.And the snap crackle pop is fixed on my current Flowmaster..as stated above by wingnut..it was due to an exhaust leak..fixed with new header gaskets. So that shouldn't be a problem with the new muffler once I install it..Lets here some more testimonies of those who swapped from Flowmaster to Spintech.Where did you gets your also?I am thinking of going direct thru Spintech?I like what I hear so far..keep 'em coming.
I'm using the 3444XL muffler on my car, swapped it in place of my Flowmaster muffler that came w/ the "American Thunder" cat-back I bought years ago. The 3444XL case geometry was compatible w/ the Flowmaster muffler, bolted right in.
With my cat in place, it sounds much deeper than the Flowmaster muffler, quieter inside the car, and rarely pops when I coast (I have a manual trans).
The Flowmaster had a raspy, rattly noise on hard acceleration that really irritated me. No such thing w/ the Spintech.
One thing I've noticed, when I run without the cat it's much louder and does pop on coasting deceleration. Never ran the Flowmaster with no cat so no comparison available.
I wouldn't got through spintech (order online). Just save yourself a lot of $ and get it at you local muffler shop or wherever you plan on getting it welded in. I did this with both my spintechs, and the one I got put in yesterday cost me $71 installed. Now if I went through spintech, I would have payed $69.95 for the muffler plus shipping....do the math.

Hummm, i dont heard anything like an exaust leak at, idle and such.
How to check my headers gasker (there the hooker one that came it the hedders), also i got the hedman flange adapter because i needed some quick and they where the same size as hooker, so i got an other set of gasket. the pipes are all mandrel bend and muff are welded, if i remember correctly.
i'll be putting my car on jack stand this weekend so i can look up at my rearend to check some vibration problem, at the same time i'll look for leaks, putting a rag in the muffler tailpipe and moving along the pipes for ""SSSSSsiiiiiiiiiSSSS".
edit -also, when open headers i was doing about the same about of snap pops.
I sure hope my mufflers are not put on backward!!!
So where does the 344sc fit in?According to Spintech theyre the ones meant for our cars(third gens).Inside noise is 70 db at 65mph.Thats the same as a noisy office or a air conditioner.
Is the only difference price?
I have the 343SC, yes, that is the cross-flow, just like our stock muffler or a flow 80 series. Trust, me, just a tad louder that an AC if you know what I mean.
So does it matter which one(3444,3444xl,344sc) or will all three work?If xl is quiter than 3444 then wheres 344sc?The noisiest?in between?
Irocster, what would you compare it to?
I think they have a sound comparison chart on there. And when you click on the different mufflers, it will give you all the dimensions and specs on them. To be honest with you, I really don't know how all those will compare when it comes to sound. I'm sure they will all be pretty much the same because all of the part numbers you listed start with a 3. If you want it to be in the stock cross-flow postion, you will want one of the SC (split case) mufflers. Oh, and if you have any questions that I couldn't answer, e mail Ron at spintech, they are helpful and quick to respond. Hope this helps.
I'd like to hear the sound of a spintech...I thought my 80 series flow was kinda quiet.... but...i guess not...
