LOUDMOUTH pics and reviews inside

OK guys, got my SLP loudmouth all welded up today....as well as my Carsound cat. ( but who cares about the cat )

...and for those who didn't know, the muffler is simply a 12" peice of wide open 4" pipe between the systems regular 3" pipe. hehe

First off, I was running open headers, so the LM seemed to get all my low-end torque back to where it should be, but the throttle response isn't quite as crisp. That's to be expected I guess, and either way, any exhaust system would've been the same. The new motor set-up still needs some tweaking too.

I didn't do the install myself, but my exhaust guy described the work as routine. The LM "I" pipe is WAY more centered on the car than the thirdgen systems are. He had to fab an "S" pipe about 2 feet long to meet up with the cat. He also had to fab up some hangers. I know all shops don't charge the same, but he told me he charged me for 45 minutes over what a standard cat-back would've cost.

The sound. -Wow. It's not as loud as I thought it would've been at idle, but EVERYTHING I expected wide open. That's not to say it's quiet.:nono: It idles louder than my buddies LT1 with a flowmaster 40 series. Wide open it's no contest, AND sounds better, (he agreed) When it idles, it doesn't sound very unique, pretty much just a louder version of any decent aftermarket muffler, but open it up and the lack of muffler becomes apparent. It's got that obnoxious nascar like scream. No deep Flowmaster sound, and for the record, I'm a fan of Flowmaster. In my opinion, it's sounds more like open headers than any other system I've heard, but just with the volume turned down a little. ....I'll try and get some clips up soon.

As for my tips, well that's obviously going to be a personal choice, and I'm not 100% sold on my current look. I told the guy to extend the tips to line up with the furthest point on the back of the bumper. As you can see, he did that perfectly. What I didn't take into account was the centerpoint of the bumper sticks out farther than the points where the tips portrude, and it looks like they're out a little far. That's actually OK. The near future plan is a set of Mustang Loudmouth tips. ( I know, I know) They just look KILLER IMHO. ...anyhow, now I know EXACTLY what to ask for.

...some pics?

Not yet. I'm gonna get it up on ramps and snap a few.

The guy needed some convincing to install my CAT without the AIR tubes, since technically it's illegal, so I wasn't gonna be pushy and ask if I could come by and take pics on the lift.

Please, that's the only sound worth having .

A nice, evil, ear-splitting, cop-attracting howl.

Looks like a good system. Only problem I have is that is sticks out too far for my taste. That's me though. After doing a setup similar to that on a friends ride, I can only imagine how bad *** that thing must sound.

I searched for a LONG time to find a sound I like. Some systems seemed to idle nice, but sounded crappy at speed. Some sounded good, but too tame.

The Loudmouth will go on every F-body of mine from here on out!

It sound mean as heck at idle. The ZZ4 cam helps of course too, but open in up and it just is pure music to my ears. VERY rough, not smoothed out an refined. I LOVE IT!!

So if you had to rate the ease of putting it on from one to ten what would it be? I know you had a shop do it but how much was it and did he seem to run into anything that I should look out for?

Well, since every shop will price things a little different, I'll put it this way: The guy who put it on told me he charged me for the install of a regular thirdgen catback, +45 minutes. It actually came to $160 + tax, but like I said, everyone is different, and I know the guy who did mine has a good rep for performance work. I didn't want a hack job.

...as for unexpected things, you'll need that custom fabbed pipe from the "muffler " to the cat, and you'll need to have the guy fab up a driver side hanger. Just make sure you tell them before they get it on a lift.

The guy said it was nothing out of the ordinary.

Yeah I had mine put on at Mufflex, they did it with they're eyes closed.. It took maybe 45 minutes to cut off my old exhaust, take out a cutout out of that pipe they cut off for me, and install the loudmouth.. Since I already had a 3" stainless pipe coming from my cat, he just had to cut off some of the pipe that was on the end of the "muffler" as Abubaca likes to call it (with reason ) and I had them weld on 3 bolt flanges on either end of the cat and muffler side so I can have the exhaust removed when it comes time to have my fuel pump done and they made a flange for the driver side and bolted the rest up.. Cost me $133 I think it was.. The sound is great, not too loud at idle but screams when you get on it.. My only complaint is the muffler sits too low since a 4" pipe (its prob a little bigger than 4") isn't exactly mean't to be in that spot, and I bang it all the damn time.. But otherwise I love it.

The tip thing was an issue for me too. I had the factory Iroc turndowns and really liked the look. I figured I would see how the LM tips looked, and as you can see in my post I wasn't 100% happy with how they turned out.

....however as a few weeks have gone by, they've really started to grow on me. First of all, even with the car parked, I've had several people come up to me and ask if I have a Loudmouth. That's kinda cool. Plus you can see the SLP logo on the tips, which is also pretty cool. And in the worst case, you can always get the tips redone. There's no reason you can't have factory turndows on your Loudmouth. It'll cost a little extra though...

Theres a few clips and pics of it installed from under cars on here. They are downloaded on my computer...I used the pics when I got the exhuast guy to make a loudmouth clone for my car...I went with a Dynomax bullet muffler and catco cat w/ 3 1/2 inch Magnaflow tips...I love it more then words can describe

Oh yeah, It only cost $175 for them to make the whole entire system from the headers back, I just had the muffler and cat in the front seat...So for under $250 I had a clone to a loudmouth fully on my car...I know its not all stainless like the SLP kit, But hell its sure cheaper...Costs less then just the setup!

Nah, sorry 'bout that...and no sound clips either.

...my buddy with the video camera is on a pretty short leash ( )...and without a lift, the pics of the fabbed pipe are pretty worthless. All I can say is that it's a pretty easy piece for a exhaust shop to fab.

Movie Clip

I had mine done at Mufflex as well and like it but it's completely obnoxious. I've been pulled over 4 times now and if I didn't know a few people I'd have my first ticket over it. Anyone else have that problem? As for sound at certain RPMs it sounds great but then it can get kind of ratty so I'm undecided about how it sounds. It's different and LOUD I'll give it that.

The only Loudmouth I've heard was on a '91-92 Z28 at the TG Nationals and the guy had a stealth ram, headers, 6 speed, and the LM. The LM was (IMO) wayyy too loud and just plain obnoxious the more he got on it...but to each his own. I didn't make it to Auto Fair and neither did Chris (Abubaca) so I have nothing else to base it on.

Yeah but the 91 @ TGN was Longtubes with no cats, And something else was obviously wrong cause there was some major popping when he left and let off... I like how mine is with a high flow cat and bullet muffler, Have yet to be pulled over in the last year for it, Warned once at a road check but that was it....At Idle and low rpms it sounds loud but not overwhelming...But at WOT its VERY noticible!

Slowfiveoh, you live in Goochland? hehe..I've been to Goochland! Went four wheelin' and turkey huntin' in Goochland. Not a very good idea to do together, and the turkeys don't like 4x4's much, but it was fun!

...anyhow...

My LM pops a bit if I completely let off it at high RPM. Muffler's typically eat up that popping, but without a muff on the LM....

...and yeah, it's pretty obnoxious Ed. Hopefully you'll get a chance to hear it soon! As far as getting pulled, anything under 2500 rpm'
s is loud, but no where near illegal. As long as you're not hammering all over town, I don't see it being a problem. If you're trying to get the holeshot at the traffic light, well, it's not the sound that got the cops attention, ya know?

I'm really considering the Loudmouth, only I wish there were some way for them to re-use the Flowmaster American Thunder tips that I have on there now. With the way the Loudmouths pipes go out to an angle right before the tips, I don't know how it would work, since the flowmaster tips are pretty long. (the whole reason I like them so much) This 80 series just isn't cutting the mustard for me since my new engine went in.

The tips would still work.

Under the rear of the car looks the same with the FM as is does with the LM, just no muffler!

...I meant to mention that you'd need a slight little bit of fab work, but no big deal for an exhaust shop!

I know Goochland. Who can forget a name like that? Little girl in the pic below was born in Albemarle (C-ville).

Not too far from me. I'm in Chesterfield, just off Powhite and Courthouse Rd.
