What kind of mufflers are available to me on an LO3 TBI?

I was thinking of getting a DynoMax Magnun Bullet muffler like this one....

http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp

Or a flowmaster 80 series muffler

or a full on dynomax set up (may be awhile)

http://store.summitracing.com/defaul....asp&x=27&y=13

or a magnaflow muffler such as this

http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp

Now out of all of those mufflers which one of them will give me the deepest, most agressive tone, I heard flowmasters weren't really the best ones, that bullet muffler is pretty damn good considering its 3 inch in and 3inch out outlets.

I like magnaflows because of the way they sound, I have a friend who has a full on magnaflow catback set up and it sounds amazing, I doubt mine will sound as good but I want the same deep agressive tone.

I dont really want to shell out money yet for a full cat back system as that is something that will happen down along the road. I just want something to keep me busy for a bit longer before I can raise enough money for a good catback system.

So, which one is the best muffler?

Thanks

I'd go for the magnaflow, great performance, great sound. The one I heard is great, nice tone, a great break from the way too popular Flowmaster sound.

i have a dynomax exhaust. headers to exhaust. When i had my LO3 or now my 383 people still tell me my car has a different sound. with the cat it had a better sound then a flowmaster (had one of those first but dynomax sent me a free set of header and muffler for a fittment problem i had with there headers). with out the cat same thing just alittle rasppy. every comes up to me and ask what exhaust i have because most people i know go for the flowmaters. well thats my 2 cents

not on your list, but I am a big big fan of the hooker cat-back systems for our cars. It's an idea.

Yeah, cheap, thats the way to build a nice car. Magnaflow makes more power than others (especially flowmaster and spintech) and many think it sounds better. WHen I got mine they didn't make it for a thirdgen so I modified one for a forurth gen to work.

A muffler will help but to truly increase the sound and performance of your car you will need to replace the whole exhaust and step up to a larger diameter system. The small piping of the TBI cars keeps the sound down imensly.

well how about that Dynomax catback, I looked at some magnaflow catbacks they are expensive, the American Thunder flowmasters may not be bad but I heard flowmasters were not good...

if you are talking about that $170 dynomax kit, keep saving your money because it's crap. I put it on my v6 and it was quieter than stock. Not to mention it's got a 1 piece int. pipe that was a royal PITA to get over the rear end, even wit the car up on a lift, and the rear dropped with the back of the car on 6 foot jack stands.

I <3 HOOKER CATBACKS

hmmm, what kind of catbacks does Flowmaster make for the LO3 TBI....I really like the way American Thunder sounds lol....

Also if I do get that dynomax bullet muffler, the inlet and outlet is 3inches wide, will that fit on my car?

you will need adapters so it can fit on the puny stock pipe, if you really want to do it the cheap way, just buy a flowmaster 40 series and new tailpies and tips.

I dont have the money for an expensive exhaust right now, I am saving my money. You know what I'm doing to the exhaust in the meantime?

NOTHING.

It's a waste to throw a cheap muffle ron because all it's good for is a paperweight later. If you really want to increase your permormance by doing exhaust, save up for a good set of headers, a new cat, and a good catback system. Do it all at once.

okay, go to NAPA or PAPA auto parts and buy the 3" walker intermediate pipe which is the one that comes in the dynomax kit. Then buy a magnaflow muffler ( they make them in polished stainless that is more expensive, and also a steel version) with a 2 1/2" inlet (because the pipe necks down to 2 1/2" at the muffler) , dual 2 1/2 or 3" outlets. Buy some tailpipes and you're done.

BTW, the kit doesn't have to be for an L03 TBI. Any kit for a thirdgen will fit.

If you buy an aftermakret cat-back tailored for TBI it will have 3" piping with the necessary 2.25" reducer on the end of the I-pipe to mate to the stock cat. You can re-use all of the existing hangers and the kit will bolt up with simple hand tools and an hour or two of your time. There is no need to piece a system together like some are suggesting. You are better off spending the $250 up front for a well put together and performing kit.

All of these company's make kits just like I described.

Flowmaster
Hooker
Magnaflow
Borla
Random Technology
Mufflex
Edelbrock
Banks
SLP
Mac
and a few more I can't remember at this time.

he's looking for a cheap solution, so I gave it to him. Chances car he'll be having a shop instal it anyway so having them adapt a 3" pipe to the cat isn't a big deal. Assuming he's got a stock size cat on the car that still has a flange.

It comes with basically everything, tail pipes muffler it looks good very good.

PRoblem is I heard flowmaster isnt good, everyone tells me "oh theyre slowmasters blah blah blah" I just thought the dynomax bullet would be nice...and deep

ok I have made my choice I am going with this sucker right over here...

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...15&prmenbr=361

I heard they were easily the best for the money, and everyone I have talked to says Hookers are really good exhaust systems, the whole thing will be about 270 dollars which is almost 80 dollars cheaper than the American Thunder exhaust, and on top of that it has much more flowing capacity then the flowmaster does....

What do you guys think...50hp boost with that thing...and then I'll be installing LT1 cams which is another 30-40hp, along with an air filter, and I will be reducing the car's weight within a matter of months...

What I also want to know is if the 50hp boost is true or false, if it is false about how much hp will I get from this whole set up? Anything over 25hp is good for me. I just want my car to sound good and actually make a significant difference.
