everyone has there own opinion on whats best but, for the money spent if your building a high performance motor in front of the exhaust and want a long life on your exhaust a borla stainless is a real good choice.
Anyways about installing it yourself well it's quite possible that you could do this yourself, what you will need is a welder (mig/wirefed would probably be easiest for most people). As for hand tools there realy isn't anything you'd need other than a screwdriver to put up new exhaust hangers (screw gun would be better actually).
Basically if you do it yourself on jackstands in the driveway your going to get burnt a lot from welding *debris* and you will be making a few extra trips ot the auto store/exhaust shop for different adapters and such.
Whether it's worth it or not is entirely based up on you and your work ethics

.*All you need is a little patience a screwdriver and a big hammer as my dad says*.
