Ok I have a 92' 305 TBI Camaro... After I sit at a red light and then take off, I get a puff of white smoke! I dont get it when I turn it on or while driving... What could me my problem???
i believe another member suggested something similar to this test, You take a pressure tester, Pressurize the cooling system to normal psi like 16-18 i think?, Take out your spark plugs, then Take card board and lay it down beside the exhaust manifolds, Wait like an hour then go crank it , where ever u get antifreeze on the cardboard is where/which cylinder is leaking Just an idea, Guessing it would work

WOW! I think Id rather swap the motor before Ill do all that. Thanks for the tip though...
Any other suggestions? Using oil, Puff of white smoke, only after stop and a short time during accel...
Get a pressure tester pump it up to about 15psi leave it alone for a while. Did the gauge drop or stay around the same. If it droped look for leaks then if nothing is spotted turn the car on and look for white smoke. Was the coolant full or low. They also make a tool that uses a chemical that turns blue if their are carbon particles in the antifreeze. Typically a pressure test or cylinder drop down test would give you alot of information. However if its blowing white smoke after a pressure test it has a deffinate leak.
Go and put full coverage on it and wrap it around a telephone like the picture u have.... then claim it and buy a newer one....lol.
I had that problem with a 87 trans am with a 305 and it ended up being a crack head but i was burning a gallon of antifreeze per tank of gas.thats all i can help....sorry

LOL! Now thats funny!
I sure hope its not cracked. O well guess it will give me a reason to get rid of it or get another motor... (I have no idea on how to work on heads...)
I was reading an article in Camaro Performers and they had a project 3rd gen and thier car is pretty much doing the same thing... They replaced the valve stem seals. Could this be my problem?
Maybe a small hint of blue, but from what I can tell "white"... The Camaro Performers car was also white smoke. And all it did was burn oil, just like mine. Its really hard to tell exactly what color because its only when I sit and then take off is when I can get a look at it in my rear view...
while the piston ring yes u have to take the engines out and replace the rings but if u do that i just rebuild the engine. but the valve seals is a differnt story it take a good day or so but it hard if you dont know what you doing
