I'm real happy with the install on the Hedman shorties. I only had to take 1 engine mount bolt loose and jack up the drivers side of the engine 1/2 inch. I KNOW that sounds scary but in fact it was SUPER-DUPER easy.
Performance-wise, i don't know yet -- but talking to some TPI gurus the shorties offer the right amount of back pressure to help performance.

So, i give a +1 to the hedman on ease of install.

You are talking to the wrong people then if they are suggesting that you need to keep backpressure to have better performance.
I had a set of hedman shorties on my car and noticed absolutely NO performance difference before and after. I attribute that to the 1 5/8 primaries (IMO too small for any 350 or larger engine) and the 2 inch y pipe. If I was going to waste my money on shorties again I would get a set that are 1 3/4 primary with 3 inch collectors and then have a 3 inch y pipe made with a flowmaster merge collector in it. But, I will never own another set of shorties so that's out of the question.
Don't be so quick to sell shorties short (no pun intended), we have cars here in So. Cal.
making 380-410 HP to the rear wheels w/TPI and shorties w/ 2 1/2" y into 3" collector.
