Finally!! got my dougs 1 3/4 LTs and X-pipe true duals on

after a serious battle with the passenger side header, we got them on finally! the drivers side went on in 15mins literally(from under the car) but we were on the passenger side for close to 48hrs(don't laugh). A MINI-STARTER is the ONLY way for the passenger side and even with that we had to notch the k-member a little for extra clearance so there would be no annoying squeaks and rattles. As if all that wasn't enough, we went to fire it up with the open headers....would crank all day but would not fire, anyway after some swearing and searching here on TGO, we narrowed it down to the pick up coil in the distributor(my car is not CC) and after replacing it we turned the key only once and it fired up!. Then it was off to the exhaust shop for the hand built x-pipe, true duals into magnaflow "bullet" style mufflers and this guy was an older guy who's been installing custom exhaust on mainly f-bodies since 1984, so needless to say he did a stunning job!!. I'm gonna get it on lift this week and take pics so stay tuned.

Re: Finally!! got my dougs 1 3/4 LTs and X-pipe true duals on

86TA, I am using fairly new stock motor mounts...hooker LTs are VERY similar to the dougs LTs which are about $200 cheaper and the quality is top notch. Stevo, the dougs LTs are about $550 shipped from jegs/summit, ceramic coated with two sets of reducers, gaskets and bolts! I got away with murder when I got everything I just listed from a member on here for $300 there was hardly even any carbon/exhaust build up in the tubes which was indicative of how slightly used they were just like the guy said....i gave him a very good review on the classified forum. We are getting clobbered with snow right now so i'll get the pics as soon as this sh*t clears up enough.

Re: Finally!! got my dougs 1 3/4 LTs and X-pipe true duals on

I feel so much better bout my install now. I had the passenger side in bout 15 minutes then i took time off for work. ANd in one night had driver side in quicker. I went and got a ministarter from a 95 z28 before anything. I needed a new one anyways. ha

I did a bad thing to my headers though. I burnt the ceramic coating on them by accident. Too long of a burn out. lol

Heres the link to my headers of how they look in my car.

http://s112.photobucket.com/albums/n...der%20install/

heres the newest pic with the hsr.

I got a new intake to the hsr now but whatev.

and heres the vid of my burnout so you see what it sounds like. I got the dougs headers, long a$$ 3 inch y pipe and then a cutout before the rear axle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6YIK_4BPGc

Hopefully i didnt steal ur thread but i thought id give the people somtin to look at until the snow stops

if they are near identical and good quality i may go with them too. I need headers as well and need them soon

i can get jethot coated hookers for 699 plus shipping directly from jet hot. Or the hooker ceramic coated ones for 649 plus shippin from jet hot. Think thats the best deal i found so those dougs are a great option for me

i like how cheap the dougs ones were. I think getting a ministarter is just better down the road anyways. It weights no joke like 15 pounds lighter

Re: Finally!! got my dougs 1 3/4 LTs and X-pipe true duals on

I bought a brand new LT1 mini-starter(any 93-97 f-body) from autozone with a $35 core charge for that damn tank I pulled off the side of the block! with the two bolts, there was absolutely no need for the stock starter support bracket with the mini-starter....believe kowboy59 when he said it weighs about 15lbs or less!. Anybody planning on using these headers in the future, start looking for a mini-starter right away unless you want the header tubes sitting flush on the stock one, I wasn't about to "clearance/dent" my header tubes to clear that heavy a$$ thing. Make sure you do something with the starter wires coming from the alternator or they WILL get cooked....ask me how I know

I think i know which headers i'm buying now! Wow thats a great price and that clearance looks great!

How is the spark plug clearance?

Im already running a ministarter and tubular k-member so i doubt i would have any clearance issues.

The number 7(back driver) spark plug is like insane to get out. You got to have the right wrenches and rubber pliers. I believe however that pretty much all LT headers for our cars have sp[ark plug problems. I think one plug isnt too bad

i'm running the edelbrock rpm aluminum angle plug heads with accel shorty plugs...so plug swap is way easy for me. I'm also using a 125 shot and I use the accel shorty plug # 576S(gapped to .035) which is one step colder than the hottest which is the 578S:

in descending order, hottest to coldest:
578S
576S
574S
572S

Wow its like i didn't even have to ask a question you guys answered them all. I am also running edelbrock rpm angle plug heads and will be spraying a 100-200shot. So good to know they make a cold range shorty plug.

Do you have any pics of your install leep?

Ok, I need my Know-it-all card back. I made a few phone calls, and it turns out that the guy who developed the original Hooker 1 3/4 long tubes left the company and, SURPRISE, now works at Dougs. He says that they originally expected that those Hookers would be for race cars, but since most of them are on street cars, the Dougs' versions have thicker flanges and heavier tubing to hold up to street use, but are otherwise pretty much the same design.

If you think about it though, any LTs that are made for our cars more than likely have to be similar in design and fitment to fit the car properly.

Maybe its just me, but those headers really seem to have more ground clearance then hookers. They look like they tuck closer to the floorboard might just be my imagination. I really need and want a 1 3/4" ceramic coated header and up until now hookers were the only choice but at $700 something i was considering just getting some coated 1 5/8" hedmans in the $430 range.

I'm already sold on doug's headers.
