help with exhaust leak between y-pipe and exhaust manifold

I have an 84 trans am with rebuilt 305. I have the original exhaust manifolds on with original y-pipe. we had the rest of the exhaust replaced except the cat. b/c it was full of holes and we were tight on money. anyway there is a leak right where the y-pipe meets the driver sided exhaust manifold. the guy at the shop tightened the bolt as much as he could and said if it continued to leak again we needed a new y-pipe and that would fix it. is this true or is there something else I can do to stop this leak at that area. it's very loud. thanks

i usally losen bolth sides then try to tighten bolth sides equally that usally fixes it but you have to suport the existing exuast with a jack stand

the guy at the shop has done it two times now and it has started again. he took a torch to heat it up to try and tighten it even more, but again it has started.

anyone have any clues? is there a cheap fix I can do? could I use one of those repair kits I've seen in auto store that are some type of putty/ sealer for exhaust leaks or exhaust tape?

Replace the dounut if its beyond saving, otherwise just load it with red ATV sealant
