I want to get a muffler that will have a nice sound with the single exhaust. I was thinking about getting a flowmaster 80 series, but don't know if it would be too loud for street use. Do they make a 40 series with transverse mounting. or what is a good muffler thats cheap that sounds nice. Too bad these cars don't have true dual or I would throw some glasspacks on there

I assume you mean single, as in single inlet.

I've got a Magnaflow 3" in/out with single 3" tailpipe. It replaced an 80 series. Love it.

I meant single from the engine, and dual from the muffler. When I drop in a 350 or 383 I will put a true dual system on there, because I wont need the cat.

glass packs...? are u serious...? different strokes for different folks. anyways the 80's from my experience sound good. i had that one on a 96 t/a and a 91 rs/ v8. so that is a good solid pick. the single in single out 40 is on my agenda on my 89 rs v8. i am goin with 3" exhaust on this car to see what happens. so any flowmaster will sound good. the 40 series doesnt make a transverse muffler. but the 80 is just as aggressive. no too loud for the streets unless u got a really hot motor and mash it. then yes it'll obviously get pretty loud. but the 80 has a great aggressive sound at full throttle. and is subtle when puttin around with the right tips. and yes the tips WILL make a difference. good luck i hope this helped.

You must have never heard a real car with glasspacks, there just straight through and have a nice rumble to them with true duals. I will probably get the 80 series once I get some money to spend on the car. What tips are good to get with it?

Never heard glass packs? You've got to be kidding. Heard plenty of them, had more than one.

On a 3rd gen, they make it sound like an old pickup. Now, if you get warm fuzzies from the sound of old pickups, then go for it. Personally, it doesn't have that effect on me.

As for tips, my #1 would be, "Don't vote for Democrats."

force pro series muffler from jegs or summit, same thing just half the price

run 1 inlet/1 outlet, it will flow better

when i first got my old RS all i wanted was a 80 series flowmaster cause i just wanted to be loud, i put one on and was pretty annoyed/dissapointed. I say don't get a flowmaster they are too throaty and the interior resonance is practically unbearable. If you want to do single in single out i HIGHLY recommend a chambered exhaust from classicchambered.com They're lik 60-70 bucks for something similar to a glasspack but it wont burn out, its straight through and it sounds badass. I also recommend the new magnaflow catback for our cars, I got that and love it but its dual exits...

trust me im quite intune with glasspacks. i live in missouri. Glasspack Central. every farmer around here runs glasspacks. i have no problem with them on older vehicles or old hot rods. but they are just out dated. i had a 12'' on my 89 rs for a while. sounded good... like a farm truck. but that only lasted a lil while. as for what tips go good on the 80 series. i had a set of double wall dual outlet tips. i think the outlets were 2 1/2" i cant remember. they were kinda square. i havent seen many of them. they surprisingly looked really good on my 96 t/a. they mellowed out the tone a lot. compared to the 3 1/2" thin wall slant tips. these slants echoed a LOT. they still sound good dont get me wrong. but i liked the double wall tips much more. but like i said. different strokes for different folks. but as far as glasspacks i have ran them most of my life until i got actual sports cars like the 03 gt, my 96 t/a, and my plethra of camaros. as far as power is concerned you'll get more clearly from glasspacks. cuz flowmasters flow absolutely terrible compared to other performance mufflers. they just sound good.

I think the glasspacks sound good with duals like on my dads 61 impala with a 348, and 67 caprice with a 327 300hp. Whats the best single in/out that will work with a stock system? I know I should get a cat back but I don't have any money.

like i said before, get a chambered muffler from classicchambered.com its like 70 bucks and you wont regret it. it is installed in the i-pipe

i agree with bman90rs. try the chambered exhaust. i thought about it too. i have heard some clilps and DANG. its different from the normal flowmaster or glasspack. and if u like muscle cars as much as i do, this from what i can have seen is awesome!

A 3" I pipe, 43083 80 Series, high-flow converter, and 3" and up tips is guaranteed to sound good.

the problem with that is unless ur willing to cut out part off ur underbody, the thirdgens cant be true dual

I've seen some pictures on here of some people having a custom exhaust made the has true duals in the factory routing, which is what I plan on doing when I build a 383 to drop in.

i have a single flowmaster 80 series with somewhat stock exhaust...sounds real good...not to loud when just cruising but when you get on it you can hear it...if your running duels it would sound even better specially with headers...it has a real nice rumble to it

I put an 80 series on a few months ago.. I really like the sound of it, I wanted a nice deep and throaty sound, and that's exactly what I got.

I'm happy with my flowmaster, but I am kind of curious how a magnaflow would of sounded on my car instead. I know alot of people that prefer the magnaflow.

i had a 80 series on my 86 when it had the stock tired lg4 and it sounded good i thought on it but once i built a motor for it it sounded like crap. too loud and just over all awful sound. depends on what you like though then i wanted to be loud and heard now i wanna be quiet and fast lol
