Borla 3-bolt over the axle y-pipe for use with electronic exhaust cutout

Hi everyone – I’m trying modify the exhaust system on my Camaro to give me a choice to use either the muffler, or exit before the muffler. I’m doing it primarily for the sound, and not to make any particular performance improvement. (Though if I get a performance improvement, I’ll take it!)

I’ve found a few electronic exhaust cutouts that bolt to a standard 3-bolt flange (DMH - http://www.dmhperformance.com/, Race Ready Performance - http://www.racereadyperformance.com/, QTP - http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/, and McCord - http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/mpp.htm) that’ll give me easy access to control where the exhaust goes. (I’m not starting this thread to debate which company is better, though I’m leaning to the DMH.) Now I just need the exhaust pipe with the same flange and I’ll be set.

I’ve looked at the Borla system and they make the EXACT pipe I need that goes over the axle and splits to either the muffler, or the 3-bolt flange with no muffler. (See the attached photo for reference.) With this pipe, I can bolt everything together and be on my way.

Well, I’m not in a position to spend $900+ for the entire Borla system (that, and I already have a 3” cat-back system and muffler), and since I’m not a welder and I like their design, I’m trying to convince Borla to offer just that part as a separate purchase. At this time, they don’t – unless there is a strong enough demand for it.

So…how many of you would be interested in something like this? This would work for both 3rd gen and 4th gen F-Bodies. This would allow you to keep a fairly stock-design exhaust system (assuming you have 3” pipe) and once it goes over the axle, use a single-in/single-out muffler to exit out the driver’s side for quiet cruising OR open an electronic valve and let most of the exhaust exit straight out the passenger side with no muffler for better sound. From behind the car, it looks stock with a tail pipe on each side.

Post your comments and let Borla know. I’m posting this on a few different F-Body sites, so just reply to one of them. Thanks for your time.
