Re: flowmaster 80 series too loud

My stainless magnaflow came today!!!!! It should sound AWESOME when i get it on!!

I listened to numerous exhaust clips on here and you tube, it seemed like the 80 series was too obnoxious at driving speeds, and i like the deep tone of the magnaflow 16829. Im not bashing the flowmaster either, it just wasn't what i was looking for.

Look into a Aerochamber muffler if you want it to be quieter. I hear good things about Dynomax also.

Re: flowmaster 80 series too loud

I have a magnaflow 3" catback in mine. It sounds deep, not too loud. I think flowmaster mufflers have a bit of a shorter body, which causes them to produce a higher frequency sound. The magnaflow is a few inches longer.

Re: flowmaster 80 series too loud

I really liked the sound of my 80 series.A friend of mine just gave me another flowmaster which we think was an older 80 series. It was a 3" in and dual 3" outs. Now I know what everyone means by hationg their loud flowmasters. For som reason this thing sounds like poop. Its too loud and tiney sounding and does a bunch of popping.I`m going to have to put my old one back on untill I get magnaflow.

I did just have a y pipe made for my 2460`s and I wonder if thats why it sounds like crap. The guy who gave it to me said it didnt sound anything like that on his 383 eith the same 2460 headers. The sound sucks.Sounds like a truck with glasspacks.Atleast it was free.

I took off the 80 series from Berlinetta #1 and put on a 3" in/single 3" out Magnaflow. Not only is it quieter, it's quicker, too.

When the stock engine was still in it, Berlinetta #2 had an 80 series with stock 2-1/4" cat and I-pipe and dual 2-1/4" out. It was pretty quiet and still had a nice rumble to it. Between the mild engine and small pipes, it worked well together. You'd never think the two cars had the same type of muffler.

Re: flowmaster 80 series too loud

So really the whole exhaust (headers vs manifolds, Y pipe, cat vs no cat and how big) plays a huge role in sound i take it. Does a larger diameter exhaust usually equal a deeper rumble? And i guess no cat would make it louder.
