Ca Emissions and Catalytic Converters?

These catalytic converters are no longer legal for sale in the state of California and will not be shipped to the state of California.

This is on jegs site. Does this mean that my 91 cant get a new catalytic converter and be smog legal? Wtf?

Re: Ca Emissions and Catalytic Converters?

Tell me about it man, I had to order one off of summit (jegs didn't have the one I wanted, dunno why, part # 94019) and I had to send to to a friend that lives in nevada to ship it over to me here in southern california, but I have to wait until the 14th of may before it'll even ship, so it sucks. But I'm not sure about the "new" law about that, can someone explain that? Since we would be putting after market cats on the car (mine will have an AIR tube) will we not pass a visual test?

Re: Ca Emissions and Catalytic Converters?

Man, I feel bad for you guys. It's got to completely suck living in California. We don't have any emissions tests in Indiana, so therefore, I do not have a cat. I know I'll probably get flamed for it, but whatever.

So you guys couldn't even get a cat from Summit either?

What about your local AutoZone, Advance Auto, NAPA? Can't get a high flow from either of them?

Re: Ca Emissions and Catalytic Converters?

CA's idiots in charge have decided we must have "special" cats that cost extra. You can get them from Summit or Jegs, as well.

Re: Ca Emissions and Catalytic Converters?

just got a new cat off e-bay 120.00 mag 36019 - IS CARB APPROVED.
3 inch in and out, air tube - everything to keep the smog nazi's happy.
went to the shop yesterday and its still in the books and on the nazi approved cat site.
make them an offer around 120.00 and they will probably accept. no tax and no shipping charge.
hope this helps

Re: Ca Emissions and Catalytic Converters?

if the cat was put on before 1/1/09 no problem. if put on after you need an approved cat and the printing on it has to be readeable at 5 feet. want the approved one from mag http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3AIT&viewitem= os the site where i just bought carb approved one.
