Stock Dual Exhaust for 1992

I bought a 1992 Z28 Coupe. It has the G42, LB9 (5spd).
It came all original but I would like to give it dual exhaust.
OEM dual exhaust. Was this an option for the 1992?

Re: Stock Dual Exhaust for 1992

I don't think so, considering the cat/emissions restrictions.
And there's no shortage of advocates for either "true duals"
or "large capacity cat-backs" on the board.

Keep listening
there is a plethora of knowledgable advisors,
as well as the usual asssortment of gas-bags here.

Since you're in Houston, check out our forum on the Regional
Boards, specifically the big meet in July.

Re: Stock Dual Exhaust for 1992

The closest to a stock dual exhaust for 92, woulda been the dual cats, which then merged into a single pipe back, crossflow muffler, and dual exits from the muffler.

You can buy an off-the-shelf 2.5" dual cat-back now, but you'll still hafta do the headers/manifolds & cat section.

Re: Stock Dual Exhaust for 1992

i am one of the gas bags.
the cal dmv tells me that originally there was a problem with dual cats - they were different cats. the right side was a 3 way and the left one was a 2 way - i think they say way - but one was a 2 the other a 3. had something to do with federal smog standard - federal gov stuff.
anyway both systems went into a single y pipe. the duals cats were part of the y pipe and fed into a single one and the single cat has only one cat AFTER fed by the y. they both fed into a 2 1/4 mid pipe that ran down by the drive shaft and then to the muffler and out pretend duals.
not sure if there was any actual hp increase - othes may know.
but hooker makes the 2055 which is carb approved for california - and goes into a 3 inch y pipe - seems to be the most common here. but there are some good true duals too - but we dont have a lot of room under a 3rd gen for big pipes.
some run true duals the same way as the original single pipe, some run them straight back and dump them just before the rear end; some run them as side exhausts.
its all over the board - take your pick.
have fun looking - its like going to a really good place to eat that has a 20 page menu - it all looks good and its hard to make up your mind.
