I noticed that the SLP loudmouth is just a giant single chamber, no packing or anything. Or am I missing the magic of these things?
If I take a pair of Cherry bombs and cut the packing out, that would be the same thing for a fraction of the cost correct? I just don't feel like spending 170+ for a pair of LM1s, though I would like something that still constitutes as a muffler (by my standards) for legal reasons.
no its not the same.
a chambered exhaust is different than a cherry bomb.
a chambered exhaust has specifically placed - well i call them chese graders - inside of the chamber.
here is a site where i posted picks of the chesse grader and the new approved cat for cal. 3 inch inside diameter and only 3 1/2 inch outside diameter. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/ex...se-grader.html (GOT MY CHEESE GRADER AND CAT)
I had dynomax bullets, same thing as the cherries really. I love the sound of glasspacks and the form factor, but they have a certain tone that drives me crazy. They sound almost like sticking a rag over the exhaust in the way that they "puff" until the packing burns out.
I like the burble of them, but they just aren't aggressive enough. Must be used to straight pipes...
Going to try hollowing out the packs in a week or two, and will post up results.
Ahh iknow what you been by that "puff" type of sound like a "muffled/muddy" sound. What is your setup that your putting this behind? You running true duals or a single system cats? Headers?
first off i want pictures of your entire setup and shortys cats 2 1/4 piping along with a lsx style powerplant is more than likely part of the cause of the odd sound. those lsx style motors have a very diffrent sound. no cats and longtubes would make the sound a lot diffrent.
