Exhaust Cut Outs

Hey guys,

I have a 91 Camaro RS and I'd love to throw on a Cutout.

Im looking into DMH brand. Anyone have any experience w/ them an enojy the sound?

Also...They sound killer on Standards..but I have an Auto. Think its still worth it?

Thanks

Re: Exhaust Cut Outs

Standards?!?!? What exactly are you asking? They all sound the same with the same motor, it's basically open headers. I have a QTP SS 3 incher on my IROC...sounds good for about an hour, then it gets annoying lol.

Re: Exhaust Cut Outs

i have the qtp also. Ive never had the car to the dyno to see if it adds any performance, but personally i love it. you can close it up in town to be quiet , or blip the switch to open it up.

or my absolute favorite is to drown out the fart can mufflers on some of the import guys.

Re: Exhaust Cut Outs

Have a cutout on my 3 inch bassani catback and love it. With it closed the bassani is very quiet so I used to leave it open all the time. I would have it open for months on end and only cap it just for something a little different. But then it was back open again a day or so later.

Re: Exhaust Cut Outs

where do you guys mount the switch?? My car is 100% stock looking and I'd hate to modify the interior at all to incorporate a switch.....

Re: Exhaust Cut Outs

dude cut outs are great. it so funny when a ***** pulls up next to you revs his engine , and you open yours up and it looks like they **** a brick. i will admit that after a cople of hours they do get annoying , but hell you close them and you have a full exhaust system.

ps i mounted my switch inside the ash tray

Re: Exhaust Cut Outs

How does the cutout sound? is it raspy like having the muffler fall off? Or does it sound sweet?

Re: Exhaust Cut Outs

Disconnect your downpipe/ypipe thats what it'll sound like. loud and obnoxious and amazing for awhile haha. I have a buddy that only has an open y-pipe and i love just revvin that **** around town...mine has a full stock exhaust on it, but when i upgrade it i plan on doing a electronic cut out as well.

Re: Exhaust Cut Outs

It sounds friggin awesome!! I get smiles and people waving all the time when I drive around with my cutout open. The tone reminds me of an open header drag car. It sounds SWEET! Just after an hour like stated it gets to your ears.

Re: Exhaust Cut Outs

I drove from california to south dakota once with just shorty headers and a y pipe on the camaro back when she had an 11:1 327 TPI. Needless to say I crushed the #7 exhaust valve spring and ruined an IAC valve. I personally love the sound of straight pipes/open headers. I would run them all the time if not for the hearing loss. I couldn't hear anything for at least a day.

I'll probably put some QTP cutouts on my 454 once the exhaust gets put together. You shoulda seen the look on that guys face in the s2000 when I revved it back at that guy. I don't think he'd ever heard a big block before in his life!
