Exhaust Sealant & Tape

I bought an aftermarket catalytic converter and noticed that the slip joint is not as "snug" as the old one was. I haven't installed it with the clamp yet, but was wondering if anyone had any feedback on this. The factory GM shop manual says to apply "exhaust sealant" to all slip joints before installing. Any ideas what this stuff might be and/or where to get it?

Re: Exhaust Sealant & Tape

Basically its a roll of "tape" that you put on your exhaust pipe. The stuff i got was a combination of graphite and some other stuff and it creates kind of a gasket that will aid in sealing the pipes when they are crushed together. Quad manufactures have been using it for years and that why I used it. Seems to work pretty good.

Hope that helps.....

can this tape be used for a small hole I blew in my pipe when my throttle stuck, and I shut off the motor and turned the key on, and boom! I blew a dime size hole in the pipe from the cat to the muffler.
