can't decide wich y pipe?

i want to put headers on my camaro. i decided i would like to get the hooker 2460 headers. there only like nine bucks more than the hedmans but have thiucker flanges and thicker steel. they both have 3 inch collectors.

here's where im stupped. i want the y pipe to meet up at the cat to be 3inch. and the websites dont say exactly what size it is. im also leaning toward the hedman over thhooker becasue the y pipe is half the price.

if one y pipe end sin 3inch and the other doesn't that would solve my problem once and for all. does anyone know for sure?

Re: can't decide wich y pipe?

There are two Hedman y-pipes - 17470 with 3-bolt flange and 17478 with the ball & socket connector. Both have a 2.5 inch outlet. Need to pick based on the type of header you have.

There are two Hooker y-pipes. One comes in a kit, p/n 520-2055 on Jeg's, with the headers. This y-pipe has a 3-inch outlet. I do not believe this y-pipe is available separately. You might try and call Hooker.

The other Hooker y-pipe is part number 16767, which is for the p/n 2460 headers. This y-pipe has a 2.5-inch outlet. The other difference between the two y-pipes is that the one in the 2055 kit is made with a ball & socket collector connection where the 16767 is made with the standard 3-bolt flat connector.

The Hooker 2055 y-pipe appears to be formed to connect to the cat. converter. The 16767 comes with a straight pipe to connect the y-pipe to the ball & socket connection after the cat. converter (i.e., looks like the kit is for bypassing the converter). This makes no sense because you would expect people that are bypassing the convertoer to want the bigger 3-inch outlet on their y-pipe.

Just went through all of this myself. I have the Hooker 2460 headers so I had to buy the 16767 y-pipe. I bought a 3-inch pipe "u" bend and a section of 3-inch exhaust pipe from Jeg's. I am going to have the muffler shop use these to fabricate a 3-inch pipe from the y to the cat. converter. I had to buy online because the muffler shops around here don't carry 3-inch pipe nor do they have a mandrel to properly bend the pipe.

Re: can't decide wich y pipe?

thanks fo the info. see i know i want the magnaflow 3" catback. but i dont have emissions so i was going to remove the cat. and i can get 3 inch mandrel bends from work (advance). i just figured if the headers have 3 inch collectors, why not make a why that stays 3 inch and then connects to the catback. but none of the sites say what size the y's are. now i think i have it figured out what i need to do.
