getting high with my trans am ...

ok , so im getting white smoke out of my tail pipes and its not oil its gasoline 91 octane to be exact , well i set my spark timing to 8* btdc like chilton says btw " chilton owns haynes" anywho my car is running real rich OR ! i am not recerculating my exhaust gas , becasuse my spark timing is right and i even tuned my throttle body unit to run a little lean since it used to dum so much gas in there . so basically eshaust is really rich and even though i have the right timing " i even advanced it more and it still rins rich " could my EGR have a major role in this problem ? btw i have to smog her by the end of this month ..... yikes!

Re: getting high with my trans am ...

white smoke is normally coolant associated...head gasket? Any gasoline-smoke is black...

Re: getting high with my trans am ...

nah , its not coolant , i just did an upper engine seal rebuild " new head gaskets and valve seals etc." and before i took my engine apart it didnt use to do that , ran fine except for the over heating , now all that is fixed except this exhaust problem . i can put my hand right in front of my exhaust pipe and gasoline will start to build up on my hand just a little bit , my car runs like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZZW_xP2iDg

I am going to assume this is tpi. check your tps and do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

Re: getting high with my trans am ...

no its a throttle body , and now it even got worse , i had bypassed my coolant fan sensor so my fan could always be on but by keeping my car cool and the plugg disconnected my ecm thought my engine was still warming up eventhough it was already hott " enrichment mode at start up " so thats where i think my rich mixture is comming from , so now yesterday i was retrieving codes " a and b terminals " and i cranked my engine with the jumper cable still in place and ran it for 5 minutes then shut it off and now my car wont start , do you guys think maybe i fried my ecm ?

Re: getting high with my trans am ...

well , your timing might be off " these engines like to be a couple degrees advanced 4-8 before tdc " if its not that check your spark pluggs make sure you are getting a good spark " and a strong one at that " other than that just check you whole ignition syste from pluggs , cables to your distributor cap and coil and your igniton module , or maybe you might have a dead cylinder where your not getting any spark

Re: getting high with my trans am ...

the electrode on your plugg should be nice and brown at the top , make sure theres a gap between the electrode and the tip , if they are bad just replace them a set AC delcos go for 20 bux at kragens after that id that dosent work try your timing " after replacing your tranny " . just check your whole ignition system

Re: getting high with my trans am ...

you will need 1. a timing gun , 2. a socket wrench , 3 . an extension for your socket wrench , 4. a set of " crows feet " these are pretty cheap i think its 16 bux for a set @ autozone , its like an open end wrench but without the handle and you can mount them on your socket wrench . this is probably the best way to do it since your distributor cap will be in the way , after you get these items your set to time your engine
