Magnaflow Exhaust

Im interested in getting the magnaflow catback exhaust right now for my car, but im wondering about the tips. Does anyone know what they look like. I like the rolled edge tips that Mr. Brisk has on his cars, im just wondering if they come like that or something else. Thanks

The ones I have are straight out, 3.5" if I remember right and round. They are not rolled. Sound saaaaaaaaa-weeeeeet though.

Re: Magnaflow Exhaust

Not a "Magnaflow Brand" cat back, but mine has a Magnaflow muffler & Magnaflow tips with rolled edges, made for 98-02 LS1s, on my 87 GTA.....

Re: Magnaflow Exhaust

Hey Stephen (I hate to be a thread jacker, but...)

How much modification is required to put a 4th gen exhaust system on a 3rd gen? I've seen some really nice ones that were only for 4th gens. Is a lot of custom work involved?

Thanks!

Since it is kinda related related to the OPs post (exhaust option), I'll respond here instead of a PM.

Previous owner had it put on, by a shop, so I'm not 100% about everything BUT.....

93-97 LT1s are basically a 95% bolt-on. Just some tweaking to the hangers.

As for my 98-02 LS1 kit.....

The shop charged him more than the kit even cost, saying it was a major deal to do. But I'm almost certain that they just ripped him off.

Others have used this exact same kit & done it at home. Saying it wasn't all that bad. Just a little work to hook up the the factory cat/y-pipe section, since they are mounted very similar to a long tube style, whereas ours is completely on the passenger side & the hanger work (like the LT1 kits).

Re: Magnaflow Exhaust

Ohh ok. That doesn't seem too bad. Especially the 93-97s. I'm doing an exhaust this winter probably, and I just want to keep my options open, including modifying a 4th gen exhaust if I can't find a nice 3rd gen one or have one custom built. Thanks!!

Now back to the original topic.......

Straight round with a slant.

A lot different than the original exhaust. I'm not sure I totally like them but for the price it works for now.

Re: Magnaflow Exhaust

i bought the magnaflow cat back for my 84 z28 and started installing it today......so far, it sucks!!!!!

the pipe that goes over the axle already had rust on it right out of the box. and the instructions say to reuse the factory hangers, but they are not even close to working. so now i called it a day and its sitting on the lift and gonna sit there till monday when the dealer is open so i can see if their are different hangers for the tailpipe (i think the one in the instructions looks like a fourth gen hanger).

and on a side note it looks like the pipe that goes over the axle might hit the frame, but till i have the hangers on im just useing my squint gauge.

now i wish i had spent less than half the money and bought a dynomax kit.

strange thing is, my 84 came with factory dual mufflers!!!! never saw that before.

Re: Magnaflow Exhaust

That's weird. Mine went in really easy. I bought two new OEM hangers and you can see the "L" hanger I had to make from two Canadian Tire universal hangers in this pic....

That was the only fabrication I had to do to make it work. Mine cleared the axel with room to spare. Maybe the '84's are a lil' different. I think they make a panhard bar that's bent to allow more clearance if you have problems.

Here's my setup. Quick pics to throw them up here. The tips look like they stick out alot but when you stand behind the car, you can't even read the Magnaflow on the end of the tips.

Re: Magnaflow Exhaust

Mine are the same as those, and are also for a 4th gen. Got them before the 3rd gen version came out. Not sure where the fellow that installed them got the rubber from but he found some all rubber hangers that mated up very nicely - I'll have to get a pic for you.

Looks like you need to take the "cat back" to the gym .....My brother has a cat that large, will put any part of your body it sits on to sleep in about 3 minutes

Re: Magnaflow Exhaust

Well I got my exhaust done by a really reputable shop. It was a Flowmaster 3" exhaust system with the clamps for a dual cat. Whats cool is the shop guy and i talked an he used only three clamps on the whole thing. One clamp is by cat/midpipe that way in case I need tranny work, they can just drop that pipe, and by my muffler in case they need to drop my gas tank. Its really clean. Here's some photos.

Re: Magnaflow Exhaust

I have the magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 93441. Also some of the forum sponsors selling magnaflow usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great cat, sounds great, and very easy to install.
