maybe look at the underside of the car? There really isnt room to put mufflers or even tubing where you want to put it without loosing a lot of ground clearance
edit
if the first pic is indeed what you have on the car now, you wont loose any more clearance that you have now, should be room to add the pipes.
I have to agree wth 86ta, there is no room where you want to run the pipes. check out my post from earlier this month "side exit exhaust with ground clearance. Plenty of pics. Its not duals, but 3" from collector to short boom tube.
Check out the exhaust I did on my 89 rs. True duals with glass packs, no crossover being that I'm only running 2.5 inch pipe with a lot of bends. Hope this helps, I have tons of clearance to lower my ride. http://s794.photobucket.com/albums/yy226/cvz6977/

yeah run the pipes in the stock location like this and you'll have room to run a glass pack type muffler either in the stock muffler location or in the driveshaft tunnel area, just need to stack them
Heres my ypipe i made
Option A. That y collector is where the stock cat would be on these cars or just about that location. Just put a simple H or X pipe there. Magnaflow makes nice short x-pipe pieces you can put in there. My pipe is 3" so with 2.25 or 2.5 you'll have tons of room.
Then run the exits out the Xpipe down the driveshaft tunnel. Get one to go high and one to stay low. Can put two glasspack/chambered tube/etc mufflers on top of eachother and then possibly dump in front of the rear wheel or go up over the axle and out the back end. Plenty of room up over the axle.
Option B is same as above but put mufflers in the rear of the car like above posted link
Option C is to use magnaflow muffler with built in X pipe. Not sure how big it is, but MAY beable to put it in the stock CAT location

If you did that y pipe how much would you charge me to make me one for some 2055 i just bought
Ypipe was easy to make. I would say I have about 140 or so in materials not including the y collector which is 50-60 bucks from flowmaster. Cant remember how many bends i had to buy. probly 6 at 22 bucks a pop. Plus V-band flanges.
Took a couple of hours to get all tacked up, then weld time, i'd say 300-350 bucks total for a complete y pipe like this. Basically half the duals. Rest of the exhaust would not be to hard to make. Few more pieces of straight, then two bends for up over the axle.
My over the axle pipe with dual pipes out the back cost about 180 to fab including materials and labor. 30 bucks or so for tips.
This can be done on a second thought... as i did it
picture layout is not proportioned right, but concept is there. dual pipes running in stock location, then x pipe where stock cat was, then bullets in the driveshaft tunnel, then run pipes out the rocker sides. its doable, especially with 2.25 or 2.5" pipe. I got 3" duals on mine now...well not 100% done yet but almost. It will fit fine
if i ever went a dual setup, it would be something similar to this.
i have a 4" single now with a bullet muffler in the I pipe, which is 5". a magnaflow or dynomax can is only 6", so only 1/2 less ground clearance than i have now.
the bullet never scrubs, its always the y pipe.

sporting the stock fuse box and taillights.
too many mods to type.
6.23@109.71 pump gas. all motor.
My setup is complete, and should offer decent clearance i think...sits abit lower than i originally was going for but better than before with the single 4" and 6" ultraflo round I think. Sounds amazing. I'll post some pics tomorrow or thursday
the picks I posted show the boxes that were welded in, I don't have any pics of ground clearance or anything, unfortunately, I haven't had a motor in the car too many projects in line in front of it. I'll try to get some pics of it on the trailer new owner is picking it up monday, I sold it to fund a new transmission.

that looks good but the things that have me worried is do you have to pull the whole exhaust off to take the driveshaft out and how much can the rear end go down with out it hitting the exhaust?
What I'd do is make the mufflers a slip fit connection or put on a V-band flange for easy take out when you need to swap driveshaft out or tranny or rear end or what have you.
Thats what i did. I have vband connections at the rear before going over the axle so it seperates there, and in the front i have slip fit connection in front of the x-pipe going into the flex pipe sections that come off my downpipes.
Rear mufflers also slip fit so they come off allowing the over the axle pipes to come out without having to jack the car up in the air really high.
easily dismantles and is easily put back together.

you just have to plut clamps or some type of connection joint in the system where you feel it fits best.
id do one at the headers, and one right after the mufflers. that way you can drop the center section to work on the car, or drop the rear section when you wanted some extra noise or at the track.
