donut gasket

Two days ago a friend brought her car to me, 89 Firebird 2.8L, with a bad exhaust leak. After replacing the blown out O2 sensor and bung it was discovered during reassembly that the donut gasket on the passenger side had a crack through it. Today after a trip to the parts store in my town nobody has a listing for the 2.8L engine gasket however they do list a very different looking gasket for the 3.1L cars. Anyone have more info on where to get a replacement or a part number to referenced?

Re: donut gasket

is it just a regular donut gasket? measure the ID of the gasket, or the OD of the sleeve, and pick up a donut gasket. Or is this gasket a bit different?

Re: donut gasket

Well the 3.1L gasket has a metal lip on the top of it but the 2.8L is just flat on top.

Re: donut gasket

im under the assumption that the 2.8 and 3.1 are the same externally, same exhaust and everything, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Maybe the metal lip was just an improvement of some kind?

Re: donut gasket

The 3.1L cars use a different manifold, it may look similar but they have a cut out area to accept the metal parts that the 2.8L doesn't have. Other then that they are nearly the same manifolds.
